Took the Jeffery for a walk again...
      #17577 - 04/08/04 10:37 PM

Tossed this up on AHN the other day; belongs here too.

Went for a walk with the missus last weekend, covered about 16 km but didn't see much. The grass is still very long, we had a big wet this year and there's still too much water around. The temptation to drop a few matches was very strong, but I resisted!

Stalked a small mob of buffalo, but nothing shootable. Only saw one boar, with the wife's help. I had walked past a bunch of wallows covered in thick grass, and he tried to sneak out the back. A whistle from Rebecca got my attention!

The 400gr Woodleigh took him a trifle high, smashing a shoulder and the spine, trimming off the top of a couple of ribs in the process, and lodging under the fighting-pad on the off-side. These big Territory boars are incredibly tough animals, that's 4000 ft-lbs and a bonded-core premium bullet pulled up dead in about 16 inches! Unbelievable!

Long-time posters will know I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Woodleigh fan, and with good reason. This one still weighed 85%! Marvellous!

Couldn't resist the obligatory 'bacon-busters'-style photo! ...sorry!

Tony,
Nice boar mate!
Yeah, anyone who knows how to properly evaluate bullet performance knows the Woodleighs are very good indeed!
I've sent you a PM also.

Nice boar mate, different coloration to most of the ones I see about the place.

You forgot to put the stick or broadhead in it's mouth!

You mean you were pig hunting with your double the week before I visited! Bugger.

The Marrakai doubles proved deadly again!

tunofun: you've been trawling the archives I see!
A lot of the pigs around that dry hill woodland down towards Katherine are spotted in colour, some are quite ginger. By contrast, I would say most of the coastal and floodplain hogs are black. That's just my impression, and it may differ from some of my mates' observations.

John:
That hunt was quite a few weeks before your visit, I was simply slack about tossing it up on the web! Wish I could tell you how long the grass was this year, but I've been stuck in town for weeks. Moving house sucks!
