Do any of you guys who shoot the "Big Bores" NOT reload?

I've been reading alot of good stuff on the 404 Jeffery -- I like the practicality and the nostalgia of a round like this, but I can't find factory ammo for the Jeffery. Ammo for the 416 Rigby it is like $120 a box in Cabelas.

What would it cost to load a box (of 20) 404 Jeffery's? Where would you get brass? I don't reload, but am curious.

Nitro Steel,

CZ is supposed to introduce a .404 Jeffrey in 2005, and I think that someone is also suposed to begin manufacturing ammunition in that caliber also, but it has not been announced yet who is supposed to make it. So, in answer to you question, no, it is not currently available, but should be in the near future. I do not know what it will cost, but I am pretty sure that it will not be cheap.

Just for giggles, I went to www.huntington.com for a quick check.

100 Norma cases $140.30
50 Woodleigh bullets $49.98

Figure primers at a penny if you buy them in bulk.
Figure powder at $0.15 (depending on which powder used and how you buy it)

If my math is correct that comes out to roughly $2.36 per round. That is $47.20 per 20 round box.

The hidden part is that once you have cases (largest cost) -- you can reuse them several times and recoup that expense so it becomes less expensive to shoot.
Now, you know why almost everyone here reloads!

You may whant to consider the .416 Taylor. It is a necked up .338 case to take .416 bullets. You can build up a gun for about $1000.00
