This is my 1st posting here, have just snuck on over from the AR Forums. I hope I pick up as much good info here, as I have over there (seems to be quite a few of the same members). Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some usefull tidbits from time to time as well, drawing on my experience from 6 African Safaris.

The beautiful Oley Valley occupies @ 100 square miles in southeaster Pennsylvania, about 45-50 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It's somewhat bowl shaped with lovely, wooded hills surrounding it. The interior of the valley is mostly farm land, with several trout streams wandering through it. The land holds large populations of deer, wild turkey, pheasants, dove, fox, coyote, and the occassional bear passes through the area.

Its most famous resident was a man by the name of Daniel Boone, a noted explorer back in this country's colonial days. His family homestead is only a 5 minute drive from my home. Daniel explored the area from here, all the way to Kentucky where he established the community of Boonesboro. He was quite the hunter: records show him having killed over 250 Black Bears in one year!-all with a musket & ball!

As for my African Safaris-let me know what you're interested it, and I'll try to fill in the blanks.

The Oley Valley does indeed sound nice.

And while it has probably changed tremendously since "Daniel Boone" walked the forests its good to hear that there still are forests, deer and even an occasional bear around.

I didn't know coyotes lived in the East coast of the USA? Learned something.

As for your African hunts, some stories and photos wouldn't go astray for us to enjoy if you have the urge.

Coyotes are actually quite common here in the Eastern U.S. I've been seeing them for over 25 years. They can be found all the way from Eastern Canada all the way down to Florida. The ones here in Pennsylvania can get quite large: every year some are shot weighing over 50 pounds. They are found in every county in the state, including Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.

Almost all of my African hunting has taken place in RSA, and Namibia. I wouldn't say I'm a good hunter, just a very lucky one. I've taken the following: 3 Southern Greater Kudu-54, 55, and 58 inches, 37" Gemsbuck Bull, 29 3/4" Waterbuck, 30" Nyala, 14" Cape Bushbuck, 16 7/8" Limpopo Bushbuck, 5" Steenbuck, 15" Southern Reedbuck, 22, 23 1/2, and 27" Southern Impala, 17" Blesbuck, 25" Red Hartebeest, 30 and 30 1/2" Blue Wildebeest, Gold Medal Black Wildebeest, 16 1/2" Kalahari Springbok, 28" Cape Eland(an old, old bull-the ridges are worn smooth), 13 1/2" Warthog, a couple of Burchell Zebra, and 1 Mountain Zebra. All topped off with many Francolin and Guinea Fowl.
