Scope mount for ZKK 602?

I have one of these now, and although I know very well that there are several perfectly good ring options (from CZ, Leupold, Warne and Talley) that will mount directly onto the 19mm dovetails machined into the receiver, for some reason I just don't really like the looks of any of them.

I'd install a swing mount, but for the lovely little BRNO logo on the front dovetail. Drilling it seems like it would be a criminal act.

I have ample fondness for quick-detach mounts, so I thought I'd found exactly what I wanted when I happened upon this contrivance from MAK:

Unfortunately, however, it's not for the magnum-length action. Over email with the factory I learned that "maybe" they will make a magnum version of the mount in 6+ months time. I don't really like those odds.

Can anyone think of alternative mounts that would work?

I think so.

They take off very easily as the mounting screws can be losened and tightened with a coin or back of a blade.

The 'dished' front mount certainly helps with larger objective scopes with short tubes on long actions. Repeatability is very good and they fit without slack.

Some have thought they look quite high on my rifle. I think Chapuisarms has a set as well.



It's an alternative.

I know Conetrol do a QD mount/rings have you had a look at these. I haven't so do not know if they will suite what you want.

Interesting LFOD1776 that on perusing your link it took me to their stocks section ,check out the designations for the categories...nothing but Super Super Luxury for me! None of that half luxury shite,that would be akin to a syn haha

Mine is not quiet the same, it is still Recknagel with Pivot Front mount with the H7 Rear mount / release.

tophet1 -- Thanks for the lead! I'll see if NECG can get me a set here in the States.

Rule303 -- I have looked at Conetrol. I can't find any photos of their "quick detach" mounts, but from their description they don't sound like they're any more "QD" than the Recknagel bases. Does anyone have a photo of them? A picture being worth 1k words...

Chapuisarmes -- that is interesting, is yours just a straight-up pivot mount that's drilled and tapped on the front bridge, or something else?

Any other options?

Hi LFOD1776,

No the part number I gave you goes into the Brno grooves, the rear one has the stop. As for Recknagel, I have them on 2 CZ550's which are much the same but need to be drilled onto the receiver which doesn't happen with the Talley or Warne mounts. If you go the Recknagel way, New England Guns are the agents in the states or Google Recknagel and go to their website for a look.

Hi Jeff,

According to NECG:

"This mount is available as a special order from two suppliers; Recknagel and EAW. The front base of each of these is screwed to the action, if holes are not currently in the front ring the action must be drilled and tapped."


... which is, of course, what JJ from Champlin told me about the EAW swing mount. I'm wondering if maybe the mount you have is supposed to be screwed into the receiver, but in your case it just isn't?

Well gentlemen, I finally ordered those Recknagel mounts from NECG, and foumd a nice old Pecar 6x54 scope on eBay. This morning I decided I'd torque the rings to my normal 20-in-lbs, and lo and behold the screws just kept on going amd going... Well anyway I finally got it nice and tight and checked out my handiwork in the light of the sun and guess what? The scope tube had buckled and pinched in at all four ring seams! ARGH!! Ruined scope! I never expected that from a steel tube!

I am consoling myself by saying if the scope couldn't handle a measly 20-in-lbs then it sure as heck couldn't handle life aboard a rifle chambered in .470 Capstick! Ah well. I suppose I'll need to search for another scope now.

Anyone fancy a ruined Pecar?

It wasn't a 26mm scope with 1" rings was it ?.

I know they aren't as "cool" but I just bought my sixth set of Warne's. Still waiting for them to let me down !!.

Malcolm re-furbishes and services Pecar scopes. He may have an old tube left lying around from an old job. He has done two services on my Pecars and I personally recommend him.

Optical Restorers and scope repairs

You'd think a German 26mm scope tube with a set of German 26mm rings, they'd both be 26mm...

Thanks for the lead tophet1, but round-trip shipping to Australia from Texas would probably exceed what I spent on the scope. Fortunately I'd gotten a pretty good deal on it (it cost much less than the mounts)!

I know human body and shooting styles vary greatly, but for me that high mounted scope would not work well. And the scope is way to far back for proper eye relief for me. I image with the scope a mile high you could just lift your cheek right off the stock and hold the head way back. I dont say there is a right or wrong, but no way I could handle that on a big bore rifle. As for Leupold and Warne, both look fine to my eye and are well respected. I did not know Leupold made a CZ ring, or I forgot, but that would seem an excellent choice. Taste do vary on rings, as well and that what keeps life interesting. Those tally rings are pretty nice and the basic CZ ring works well. I used both. Some scopes dont have a long enough tube to span the long CZ magnum action, but the Leupolds fit ok.

With scope mounting on the 505 Gibbs, I'd really would have liked to move the scope another 1/2 inch forward. It is ok, but barely. I tried a higher more forward mounted scope on a weaver base adapter and gave it up as a bad method (too high) for me. The conventional mounting turned out the best way.

I want my scopes pushed as far forward as possible with std ring and there is no way I move the scope closer to my eye even on a 375H&H.

One more consideration, given the plan is to have detachable rings, then this would be a hugh change in shooting ergonomics (or holding style) to go from a head up high and way back hold to down low and forward head position with the iron sites. Seems quite a radical transition to make in shooting style when switching from glass to iron. And, potentially in the heat of battle, so to speak.

As an after thought, I feel I might benefit from another 1/4 inch lenght of pull. Maybe another might better fit a shorter stock? If the stock is too long or short might effect proper scope mounting. In that case adjustment of stock fit might be a better plan than an extreme scope setting? I dont know? I just toss that out FWIW?

No worries at all! I was just ... muttering my assumptions going in, was all. I should have thought something was up when the screws just kept going and going. I'd heard a story before about a gunsmith ruining a scope tube, but I guess somehow I just didn't really believe it. Now that I've done it myself it's a lesson I won't soon forget!

FWIW, the scope seemed to be perfectly positioned for my viewing pleasure before I noticed I'd ruined it.

I'm still looking for a replacement scope... in the meantime I picked up this little consolation prize (although this sort of thing isn't most of your cup 'o tea):

I can just imagine trying to have that little toy in Australia. Those kinds of guns never really interested me much.
That is until my kind and benevolent government told me that I was not trustworthy enough to own one anyway.
Now I WANT ONE OF THESE !!

Like you, these type of guns never interested me that much but that does look pretty cool.

Would prefer a slightly longer barrel on it though
as the heat from the flash does come back a bit on
short barreled guns like that and it gets a bit
"warm" so to speak - and that was 9mm.

In looking at that gun, it looks like it has hardly
any barrel at all considering what would be taken up
with the chamber of a 7.62 x 39 round.

Very loud.

They make enough noise as it is with a normal barrel.

Even 9mm out of an F1, MP5 is loud, these doubly so.

It's a "Krinkov" replica, otherwise known as an AKS-74U, chambered in 5.45x39mm. That thing on the front is a flash hider. It's very loud. It's a very short barrel, obviously, but that's what the "U" is supposed to be -- for folks who need a rifle but work in a vehicle (like a tank), or a paratrooper.

Probably not useful for hunting anything but fun nevertheless, and surplus Russian ammo is so much cheaper than Nitro loads!
