First Double Rifle Game Animal
      #174054 - 25/01/11 09:10 AM

Hunted hogs in Texas over the weekend and harvested this one with my Krieghoff 470. It's the first animal to fall to this rifle. I was shooting a home cast 500 gr. flat nose bullet with 50 gr. of AA5744 that chronos right at 1600 fps. It did a great deal of damage and left a blood trail the short distance to the hog that Ray Charles could have followed. Sorry for the poor quality of the pic, all I had was my cell phone.

Hi Ted,

Well done, the first blood of a new rifle is always a momentous time.

Cheers from Australia,

Nice. Now you have the blood the other barrel (or did you let him have it from both? )

Nice work! I bet you will remember that kill for a long time.
Sounds like it must be a good load. What type of wadding do you use with that 50 gn powder charge?
Thanks for posting the photo.

Ted,

Congrats on your first DR kill.

Based on what I've heard of the hog population in our southern states I would think many more could follow.

Regards,

Buchseman

With Accurate 5744 powder a filler isn't needed nor recommended. I get quarter size groups from each barrel at 50 yards with 5744 and these cast bullets, though with the lower velocity they hit a touch low and about three inches apart.

I was hunting in NE Texas, near a little town called Avery.

Sounds good to me. I love loads that don't require a filler.
