Hunting rules in Germany/Austria.
      #173370 - 19/12/10 02:50 AM

Hello all.

What are the rules when it comes to rifles and calibers for roe deer, red deer, boar and so in Germany and Austria?
Is slug legal?

Germany: Rifle for roe deer: Minimum E100 (Energy at 100 meters) = 1000 joule, so the minimum roe-deer cartridge is .222 Remington.
All other hoofed game: Minimum 6.5mm = .257" bullet diameter and E100 = 2000 joule

Slugs may be legaly used at short range, but many of the state forest administrations for safety reasons prohibit the use on their land because several accidents happened recently. Shotgun slugs are very likely to ricochet when hitting a hard object like rock, ice, frozen trees or frozen ground at an angle.
