.375 H&H 350grs TSX

As mentioned in an earlier post I am planning a Buff and tuskless Ele hunt. Bringing my 450 3 1/4 NE and a 375 H&H. Should I stick with my 300 grs TSX or move up to the 350...Does anyone have any experience with this projectile? Thanks

Is standard .375 rifling fast enough? That has got to be a LONG bullet.

I have never shot a buffalo, nor an elephant - probably never will, except maybe a bison with a muzzleloader or a my Sharps.

I would not feel undergunned with my 9.3x62, armed with a good soft and solid in 286gr. weight. In the .375/06IMP, I'd be quite satisfied with the 270TSX at 2,700fps.
I see no need for even the 300gr., nor certainly anything heavier.

The 270's and 300's made the .375 famous, and the 286's made the 9.3x62 famous - both with loads well below what is loaded for either, nowadays. The 9.3x57 today, will actually exceed the ballistics that made the 9,.3x62 famous prior to 1923 - and do it from a Model 96 Swedish action & with low pressure.

I'd stay with the 270 or 300TSX. I was very impressed with the accurcy of the 270TSX at 2,700fps in my rifle - under 1/2" for 3 shot groups - cloverleafs were the norm.

I've only shot the 300gn TSX at paper, and they shoot accurately in my CZ. They do copper foul my barrel something fierce. I've only tried Woodleigh and Tiapan 350gn RN, once again at paper, and they shoot very accurately. I hope to try the Taipans on pigs on day (they are supposed to be a relatively "soft" projectile). Like Daryl said the 300gn is the more commonly assocaited weight with the 375. I'd never even thought about the 350gn but bought a part box of Taipan 350s at a gun show a couple of years back (cheaply of course) and they shot like stink, so I tried some Woodleighs and good the same good accuracy results.

I haven't had the impressive groupings that Daryl has but the 350s will do MOA reliably. I once shot a 3/4 MOA 5 shot group @ 100yds and 1 MOA group @ 200yds with the Taipans (I went out and bought a couple of hundred after that).

The only commercial 350gr. I've shot were Barnes originals, many years ago - with .049" jackets. They were shot in a .375H&H and went 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

The 340 to 355gr. home made bullets I came up with, using .223 brass also shot into 1 1/2", but at 100 meters - using either the WW or pure lead cores.

I've not tried 300 TSX nor heavier TSX (didn't know they made one) - only the 270's and cannot really see a reason for anything heavier than the 270's.

They are already spears.

Daryl, I'm keen to convert 223 brass to 375 projectiles too. Some guys at the club have done this but I'm not going to get a chance to catch up with them till early next year (I was hoping to make some over the Christmas break, if possible).

Without trying to highjack the thread too much (maybe there is already a thread on this), do you leave the rims as is? and what resizing/forming gear do you use?
