No, the 38 Super is a longer case (won't chamber) and is loaded to much higher pressures. If you could get it to chamber, it would be a very dangerous situation.

The 38 Super is really hard on handguns. Typically chambered in 1911 style competition guns, it's pretty well known for cracking frames, and destroying linkage and bushings. Definitely not a cartridge for someone without a ton of experience in competition shooting. Expensive to find cases and to reload. Guns chambered for the 38 Super are highly specialized custom rigs. Very Expensive guns.

Colt and some other 1911 style autos do come in the .38super from the factorie. I have a .38super Colt gov that I purchased some years ago but I dont not shot offton as you say due to the excessive pressures.

It is a much more popular load in places were a restriction on military loads is put on the public rather then in the US were the .38 super is not as well known. In Mexico for instance it is hard to not find a .38 super in a auto loader as they can not have the .45, 9mm etc... due to the military use.

As stated its much longer then a 9mm looks like a 10mm length with the diamiter of a 9mm.

OK Experts heres the scoop on the pistol in question. It is a full size LLAMA that looks just like a colt 1911 45auto but for sure is not that big a bore diameter. On the right side it says on the receiver "LLAMA"EXTRA serial#337xx.The other side says GABILONDO Y CIA.ELGOIBAR(ESPANA) and below that - CAL 9M/M 38 "LLAMA"
The Pistol looks to be made in the 50s or 60s.I dont see where it tells where shes made but I would guess spain? The trigger will pull and snap even with out press in on the hand safety does this mean anything about the condition?Anyone know whay she might be worth in around 90percent condition?I would just guess around 200$ but really wouldnt have any idea.Could it be a che guvera type south american pick up from some jungle mercenary type communist castro backed bay of pigs war history firearm for collecters? What kind of pistols did they carry in cuba, nigaragua, panama, mexico, chea guveras army, etc.I really dont know alot about the spanish firearms but do know they got our Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid!!!!!
Any help would be appreciated.I kinda could figure the 9mm part but what the heck is the 38 doing right beside that on the slide?Thats Confusing!!

It may not be a 38 Super, but may be the decimal designation for the 9mm reference. If it is a Super, that is what it is chambered for it and you may be able to use 9mm Parabellum ammo in a pinch, but not the other way around.

I've never come across a Llama that I would trust my life on or use in competitive matches.

I, personally, would go with an older Colt in 38 Super or have one built. The Llama just isn't built well enough imho. I wouldn't give $200 for it, it might be valued that high, but around $150 is more likely. These aren't collectible pieces, and a jamming, unreliable, or inaccurate handgun is more frustration than it's worth.

Took the old pistol to a gunsmith today and he said it was a 9mmLargo?He said it was a kinda rare caliber and that it was kinda like a 9mm long.I have never heard of a 9mm largo. He said standard 9mm parabellum ammo will not work and neither the 9x18 marked ammo.Ever hear of a 9mm Largo?

Seems you have already answered your own question but if you are still looking for a factory handgun that will shoot 9mm & 38 SUPER I can't help, but I think that S&W makes a K frame revolver that shoots 9mm and 38 special, I think Taurus also makes an almost identical copy for a couple hundred dollars less...

I own several guns in the 38super cal and one in the 9x23 cal. these guns are built on caspian and SVi frames. this ctg is an excellent defence round and the ballistics are impressive. I shoot open class ( racegun) the load i have worked up is pushing around 1400fpm 115gr IMR powder 7625. ONe guy said something about 9 largo the same length but more pressure, caution only shoot in supported barrels. rifle primers.

Need more info look up Duane Burns or contact Nowlin MFG they make this in a 1911 and they sell the best barrels

enjoy
