What do you make of that cutout on the cheekpiece? Do you think maybe a former owner had a facial defect?

It could very well be for some facial defects...However even with facial defects the cumb should have had more graduate edges. Maybe the rifle had some kind of "slide in" cheekrest??. Regardless of what, the cut-in is done deliberatly to assist the shooter/hunter. I could feel tempted to buy this 12bore, if I hadn`t put my hands on another for pick-up DR before x-mas

. Its one of the best 12bores I have seen so far. I believe Cpt.C here on the forum also had a beautiful 12bore, just of a british make.

The cheekpiece is cut for an inserted - something. It is too angular and deliberate to fit a 'defect' of a person's actual anatomy. Of coruse, it could be due to a person's defect. It is certainly 'odd' and in a BAD place. Such a nice piece of wood- very difficult to repair 'well' and wouldn't be comfortable shooting as-is. Might even break cheek bones.

Since both of the guns have the same cuttout, one on the right for right handed, the other on the left, they must be for a rubber mounted, soft pad - which is missing, obviously.

Look at both the rifle and the paradox gun.
They both have this feature, but on opposite sides of the stock.
I doubt it's for an anatomy defect.
