Hi folks , does any one have photos of a Portuguese 1904 actioned sporter , may be done the old way ?
I can get a 6.5X58 at what seems a good price and it is half cut down now (stock) looks like it would make a nice Mannlicher or old style sporter !

Thanks

Sarg,

I posted here some time ago when I was offered one and I made the seller an ofer but he has not sold it yet - either to me or to anyone else. Tomorrow I shall be at my club and if he is there, shall photograph the rifle in question and post pictures here.

That said, there are several websites that have detailed pictures etc if you do a web search but these are mostly of unaltered collector rifles. COnsidering the rarity of the 6.5 Vergueiros, it is a damn shame that the one that you are interested in was sporterized. But, on the positive side, this makes it a rifle to hunt with.

Good hunting!

Sarge:
A Darwin gunsmith who you probably know, Vic P_, made one of these up into a nice sporter for his step-son years ago when they were going cheap in this country. Cut-down mil stock and butter-knife bolt-handle fitted, nice job. Sadly, I neglected to take a photo.

All those I saw imported at that time were 8mm, I grabbed a nice one for myself to keep in original condition for the collection.

Thank you for posting back guys , I was hoping to hear or see a Jeffery or some such made up ala M95 Dutch 6.5 but with better (the best ? ) bottom metal , I bet some have been made in South Africa , they do some nice work over there to !

It's a pity you never got a pic of Vic's one Marrakai , say are there a few M95 6.5 Dutch or Romanian in Ozzy ? I have not looked before but in the old days I know loads of old ex mil stuff turned up over there ! I'm getting keen on them , reading all these old books dam it !

Mehul , thank you , would be great to see , I have found a heap of pic's of stock Mill ones only one sporter (home job) so far .

Thank you Pete , I got it for $250 ! I thought it was a cut down rifle as all the other carbines I saw had a bayonet lug up front , but on checking more found one the same , may be a little too nice to chop up for my sporter ?

Thanks again !

Played with a few of these and if ever there is some room in one of the safes I keep promising to get me one.
I think they're an interesting breed and bloody beautifully built, one of the nicest derivatives of the Mauser heritage in my opinion. Enjoy.
