SLR Fiberglass stock
      #169594 - 15/10/10 04:04 PM

We use SLRs as the rifles at work for doing aerial culls. We have a lady in our organisation that has been trying to track down a fiberglass stock for her SLR without any success. Does anyone know where she could get one.

Cheers
Andrew

G'Day Davo,

To the best of my memory, the Brit's FN's/SLR's, used to be issued with a synthetic butt stock and forward hand guard.
Try one of the many US suppliers that advertise in "Shotgun News" magazine and On-Line(?).

Then all you have to contend with, is getting an import permit off the authorities for a "Prohibited Weapon" (or Parts, there-of) and the Australian Customs Service when it arrives!

Good Huntin!

I'm curious why she needs a new stock?

Old one broken or something?

She is only about 5'7" and about 60kg and after firing 500+ shots per day is looking for something that it a bit of a compromise between weight and percieved recoil. She has already cut the stock down as far as she can to adjust the LOP and has no recoil pad.

Cheers
Andrew

Import shouldn't be a problem as it seems she works for DECCW. Otherwise get Nickal or one of your local smiths to whip one up and add a pad.

I think a recoil pad would make a difference!

A Limbsaver recoil pad would make 100% ALL the difference. Absolutely.

Only problem is she'll have to get another rifle cuz after one of the other guys fires a few shots with hers he'll steal her gun.

Use the Para model and the stock can be shortened, because the recoil spring is in the "upper"

Hi
I don't suppose you have any further details? The only Arding I know is near Armidale.

Cheers

G'Day Fella's,

Davo, one of the mobs that I have seen Synthetic SLR (FN-FAL) stocks for is www.tapco.com but I just went to their web sight and there is No mention of any FN-FAL or SLR etc stocks on their web site?

If you Google Tapco+FAL, you may find a supplier???

Doh!

Any use of the 7.62 AK for such work?

Power level is of course somewhat less {so is recoil} and sight radius and sights leave something to be desired, but if all you are doing is poking holes and leaving the critters to run off and give it up, the thing would work pretty well, especially, I believe, from above at close range and especially on the medium-sized critters. 40-shot RPK magazines make for a long shot string, too.

I suspect the SLR's in use are merely broomed out Army guns with issue FMJ ammo to-boot?

aerial culls are a bit more closely controlled than that. You have to pass a special course, log a minimum number of hours per year doing aerial culls, only use approve rifles etc. They are currently using 130gn hollowpoint winchester ammo.
Our animal libber friends certainly would not like to think that we just poked holes in animals for them to run off and die!

Cheers

Interesting.

Actually, 130 HP's would work very well in a AK running at 2350 fps or so for a lot of game up to 300-400 lbs or so.

Interesting thread.

The only aerial gunners I know here are USDA fellows. A friend of mine is such and uses a Benelli shotgun and 3" mag No 4 buckshot on, well, you guessed it, wolves and coyotes.

Davo are you sure the purpose of your post is not just to remind us that the rest of us in Aus are no longer trustworthy enough to have SLRs any longer ?

Interestingly I hear rumours that that may change ! If anybody can add to that I would be very interested

Bob

G'Day Fella's,

I can only imagine that if we are "Trusted" to posses sporting semi-auto's again, that the SSAA will come out and protest about this, only because they didn't have any thing to do with arranging it!!!

Here's hoping that we are again allowed to possess these sporting firearms, but I imagine you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for this to occur???

Tho they can be certainly useful for sporting purposes, the main purpose of an SLR or other such weapon is to defend yourself, your family, your community and your nation from those who would destroy same.

They are not "hunting weapons" per se, they are weapons most useful for defense of life and for threatening tyrrants.

We no longer make excuses for owning such weapons.

Davo

If there is anything you need for FN FAL, SLR, STG58 etc.. contact DS arms. http://www.dsarms.com/ An excellent company to deal with. Sold my old and broken FN FAL para stock to them. They used it as pattern to set up the new production.

Cheers
Johan
