Lancaster:
I will be using my 1888 8x57 soon this sping here in Alaska. I will also be taking out the 9.3x57 for Black bear of the spring! they just eat ferns and not into the carrion or fish. The meat is good and the fur is thick and shiney.
I will be using woodleigh bullets in he 8x57 J and likely Lapua in the 9.3x57. This is a nice M46 Husqvarna. I posted after the work with scope mounting and safety, etc.
It is nice to see this post come back around. It lets me see just how much a like my old 88 Mauser Sporters.

wish you a lot of waidmannsheil for the coming hunting season! the woodleigh is probably the best bullet you can get for the 8x57I in your corner of the earth. and you will maybe the only hunter with a M88 sporter in alaska
its one of your clip loader's or do you plan to grab the rifle with the modified magazin?
the 8x57I is enough gun for any north american game but for the big Mcgrizz there I would like to have the husqvarna in 9,3.

got a PM from pato about the 10,75x57 die set from ch4d. finally it arrive two month ago and I am very satisfied with the quality.

Dave must have made something between 2 and 5 die set's for the 10,75x57 before but had interest to hear my chamber dimensions.in the end it was clear that my rifle was within his measurements.
the best brass is 30 06 but I have also work with 7x64 case's. don't having enough 30 06 brass at home I bought 160 once fired Norma cases and very cheap compared with 160 10,75x68 case's.

1. 30 06 Norma
2. resized with 9x57 die
3. with 9,5x56 die
4. with the 10,75 neck expanding die
5. full length resizing die
6. cut to 57 mm

step 4. was going very well for 20 case's till I had first cracks. The whole lot was annealed and I made a .400 neck expander. this is the critical diameter when the neck will crack or collapsing.

loaded with the die set:

1. once fired case as 10,75x57 with 300 grain lead bullet
2. new formed case with 240 grain Rem soft point
3. once fired case with 300 grain's Speer soft point

you can see that also 30 06 brass need a fire forming to becoming a 10,75x57.
all bullet's are pressed down to .424 in a home made die with my rock chucker.

I would have expected 9,3x57 cases to be easier?

9,3x57 will also become to short after expanding to 10,75mm and you will never find it as once fired bargain. if you necking up 8x57 to 10,75 the 57 mm long case will only measure 53-54 mm and the 9,3 will not realy look better.

I hope the pato's rifle arrive quick as possible, it would be most interesting!

Perhaps not, but I have a source for unfired Norma 9,3x57 ammo that's a bargain...

well, I have enough 9,3x57 brass making from 8x57 but it could be interesting for me if you have original Norma brass

we will see, the Husqvarna became a scope now for this 75. birthday( build in 1935 with his number)but I dont get the die set before 2011.
scope is a old Oigee/Berlin 4x on a Suhler claw mount that fits to the classic sporting rifle. but it must going back to the gunmaker. it was my mistake because I dont realy talk with the gunmaker before about he rifle and the claw mount is now so high that you cant use the iron sight's. was so surprised about it that the rifle drive home with me but sleeping about it I know it must be changed again - lesson learned! don't blame him for this, the work was inexpensive because of the old claw mount part's coming with the scope and he was doing his daily work and when making a scope mount here the iron sight#s are only decoration then.

Bokmal found an old Sako 9,3x57 box for me in Finland. first time that I have this load in my hands, never see it in the list's of cartridge collectors here before.
I don't know when Sako was making the 9,3x57, have only one book from 1973 where its noted as "available"

the Sako round have the same OAL with its 255 grains bullet like the Norma cartridge with its 286 grains bullet

9x57
9,3x57
9,5x56

if there was ever a doubt about it that the 9,3x53R is the rimmed version of the 9,3x57: same bullet, powder load and velocity - like twin's
the 9,3x53R box is much more remarkable, will show it in my mosin post
