" Over the last century and a half of arms and ammunition development there have been many milestones and historic cartridges. Yet, there is one that stands out as having influenced technology and arms development like no other and has even changed the course of history. The 7,9X57mm cartridge is at the same time an extremely widespread and misunderstood cartridge and, yet, it may be the single most important cartridge in the history of firearms."

Interesting how things pan out. The 8x57 is not a popular cartridge over here these days, nor is the 8mm caliber in general. You can get Highlander and Winchester factory ammo - the Highlander is good. The Winchester is downloaded and uses 0.321" projectiles so is underpowered and not accurate. 0.323" projectiles are not always in stock.

I shoot Combined Services match (Military Rifle) in Brisbane and we use ex-mil bolt guns (typically). Out of a dozen regulars I'm the only one that uses an 8mm - the others (in order of decreasing popularity )are 6.5x55, 303, 7.62x54, 308, 7.62x39 and 7.5x55.
