6.5x65RWS
      #167690 - 13/09/10 06:03 PM

Some near new FN Mauser 98's are due to arrive in Australia soon and I'm planning a flat shooting small Antelope/Deer/Gazelle rifle useing a Lothar Walther barrel.

Does anyone own or know of the 6.5x65RWS cartridge. I assume it is a Chamois and Roebuck cartridge.

Any info appreciated.

That is correct. Allthough the 6,5x68 is stronger the 6,5x65 RWS is the newer, modern cartridge. The 6,5x68 has a problem. Sometimes there are difficulties with heavier bullets that do not shoot accurately. The new 6,5x65 does and is still powerfull.

Try this thread:

6.5x68 vs 6.5x65mm

I don't have either, but am still interested in the 6.5x68. Do have a 6.5x55, and now a 6.5x53R and a 6.5x54.

A bit of 6.5mm overkill I think!

Like those ones a lot!
6,5x65RWS is quite like a 264Win mag. Ballistics are same and both are pretty hot loaded cartridges.
6,5x65RWS is one of the most capable deer or antelope cartridges ever. Easy to shoot up to 200+ (250) metres and thats enough for me.

I very much like my 6.5mm rifle, although I don't own one of the big magnums.

Someday perhaps!

How are the big magnum 6.5s on throat erosion?

NitroX, what do you have in 6.5x53R?

Cheers

I bought a Steyr mil bolt action, manufacture date I believe was 1914 in that calibre. Haven't got it in my hands yet, but maybe for a future project.

I thought I had missed out on this one, so bought the Steyr, but ended up acquiring it as well, a Mannlicher-Schoenauer in 6.5x54. It is pretending to be a sporting rifle, but I think it is another ex-mil rifle somewhat sportised. Still haven't seen it.

So two projects. One may become a carbine with full wood, the other a rifle with half wood.

But I would love a couple of M-S's or Mauser in 6.5x68 and 8x68S.
