Looking for a sporter stock for Enfield No.1
      #102754 - 18/04/08 12:07 PM

Can any of you please help me? I have a Enfield No.1 (1915) that is NOT worth bring back to mil. spec., so I wish to complete the sporterization started on it by the previous owner. Where can I get a wood stock with about the same look as a Lee Speed Sporter? I've seen new stocks with almost that look, but have been unable to find them. I am not interested in a "plastic" stock. I will settle for any classic looking stock. Again, it is not worth rebuilding.

Talk to Geoff Slee in Australia, he can supply semi-finished stocks in any wood-grade with shadow-line pancake cheekpiece and forend tennon for fitting a buff-horn tip.

I have 2 of his SMLE sporter stocks, and might even take credit for convincing Geoff to do the first one for this model rifle, including moving the stock-bolt hole quite low in the buttstock for proper comb-height for a sporter.

I'm at work so can't supply his address. I'll add it later if no-one else chimes in in the meantime.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. Is there any problem getting things shipped from Australia to the States?
Do you know if Mr. Slee has an email or Skype address?

Not that I'm aware of ,Mr Slee I believe is getting close to retirement and doesn't seem to have any interest in the internet.

Bob's gun parts, in Arkansas, at gun-parts.com has No1 enfield sporter stocks, semi-finished walnut for $125. (look under "military stocks") To get that classic look, they may need to be trimmed and slimmed down some. Don't look like really fancy walnut, but nor were many of the classic Lee Speeds.

As of this afternoon I rang his number and heard a recorded ph message from Geoff Slee ..He say`s in the message that he is currently undergoing cancer atm and wont be doing much finished work at all.

Thats a bugger for him of course and I wish him well.

I will now be in the market for someone to finish the fit of my new stock project.

Hi Gryphon,

That is bad news for Geoff and can only wish him the best as he seems to be an Ok guy.

As for your stock, how are your knees????? sorry for the pun but you might ask Ross Waghorn and may need to get down so to speak but he is also a top bloke and doesn't like to see a fellow shooter stuck.

Cheers

Jeff Gray
