G'day fellow Mannlicher Connoisseurs, I present my latest purchase. According to the seller the barrel is in good shape ,shiny with well defined rifling, the butt has a crack ,we'll have to have a look at that when I get my hot little hands on it .

That's why I have a big ear to ear grin permanently attached ATM Mike. When I first saw it I thought it couldn't possibly still be available ,but I called the seller anyway just on the off chance and got lucky!!!!!!! After popping out a kidney stone earlier this month things could only get better.

Is it an M-S carbine or a restocked Steyr military rifle?

Good question John , the trigger guard is definitely of the sporting type and I think also the sights, I'm not sure about the stock, it doesn't look quite right to me ,I've blown the picture up but it's very low res,something about the muzzle and the overall shape looks wrong I think. Not enough resolution to see if the spring is present where the bolt locks down (the military ones I've seen didn't have this)

It looks like some sort of restocked rifle to me, but I am no expert.

It has also been listed in the military rifle section, which I hadn't noticed before typing my post above.

The reason the price is $690 I think is its a mil rifle, an MS sporting carbine would be more like $1600 +.

But if you don't or haven't bought it, it will go real fast now it is listed here!

I have been looking for some of these ex-mil Steyr's etc for some time for some silly projects. Lack of a budget slows it right down however.

Good luck with your purchase.

If it's a military rifle then someone went to a fair bit of effort replacing the trigger guard and sights. I have a Greek system 30 carbine at MAB getting a new barrel ATM ,now this one, Yes I did buy it !Transferred the funds to him within 1/2 an hour of closing the deal, $700.00 delivered to Tex in Darwin

Ok ,I took delivery of the rifle yesterday ,first impressions are that I got what i paid for ,there is light pitting on the exterior surfaces ,nothing to bad ,most all of it would polish out if I refurbished it ,the barrel has pitting on the out side also but not to bad. The rifle appears to be a Greek service rifle that has had the barrel cut back ,it has "Steyr 1914" on the left hand receiver wall but no markings on top of the action ,doesn't look to have been scrubbed .Whoever did the modifications spent some time on it ,they made a spoon bolt handle for it and modified the trigger by cutting and brazing a piece into it to move it back about 1/2 an inch. When I get time I'll photograph the mods and post them here. Internally the barrel has good strong well defined rifling ,a 264 bullet will be a good fit , I don't know where the seller got shiny from ,It may be under all the gunge it's shiny but after scrubbing it with solvent on and off this afternoon there's still black muck coming out. I plan on having a test shoot tomorrow afternoon but finding ammunition or even unprimed cases is a bit of a problem ,I have found some Norma cases but I'd have to sell a kidney to be able to afford them. For the moment I'm using Carcano cases ,they're not perfect but they'll do till I can conger up some proper ones .

Sorry, so it's a 6.5x54 Mannlicher in a "Greek service" rifle sporterised. Have I understood your post?

If it is a .264 you're laughing. My William Evans Mannlicher also has a .264 bore and shoots .5 for 5 139 Lapua match HP's. With regular 160 RN and 140 BT it will group between 1MOA and 1.3MOA depending on the bullet and load.....not bad for something that was built before my father was even conceived !! LoL
