To drill or not to drill, that is the question
      #165126 - 29/07/10 01:31 AM

I'm interested in feedback on drilling and tapping one of my Mausers for a scope. The rifle is a custom build done by Jim Cloward in the late 80's using commercial action. It's in 300H&H and the rear bridge has been shaved and the bolt shroud has been replaced with one that has a Model 70 style safety. The guy it was built for didn't want it scoped so it is undrilled, I'm thinking about changing this. Is this a good or bad idea? Also, I need to have the serial number put in a discreet place above the stock line, the stock is a pain to remove to view the original number.

I would no reason not to,the piece is NOT collectible as originals and to use the the long range capabilities I would have to scope it.It's custom built, just use a matching scope for it's style.
any pictures?

Oh, I know it's not collectible. I'll see if I can take some pictures of it to post. The other odd thing about it is that it has no sling swivels, this was done in accordance with the customers specifications.

If you are an excellent shot with irons - you could use it as-is with a bridge-mounted Lyman aperture sight.
Personally, I have it drilled and tapped.
