Tranter .380 caplock revolver.

Hi,
I just get this old (1864-1869) revolver by Blanch & Son.
Im looking for information about its story and shooting.
I found and excelent site:

Hi,
Looks like no one have experience with Tranter revolvers.
It is indeed a very interesting lock work.
Do you know of any gunsmith that I can contact for advise?

Been watching this a while. Tranter and Deane, Adams and Deane were makers of premier precision revolving sidearms in the C19th. Colt in comparison was a country bumpkin.

Hi,
I found part of the problem.
Looks like the lower trigger have some overtravel so the hammer is hitting the trigger group.
I put a piece of lead on the back of the trigger guard to stop futher movement and the revolver snapp the caps.
Just have to underestand the working.
As I can underestand it, the paw acting on the cylinder star stop further movements.

I just want to let you know.

Hi,
The gun is working I hope to shot it tomorrow.
I fix the overtravel, with a little welding on the paw.
Hope this helps other with the same problem.

Hi,
Thanks for all helping and support.
Im just back form the range.
I load four chamber and one have a problem so ball get in the barrels.
Fortunatelly I check it before I do more shooting. I suspect there was a problem as it have no recoil.
Three shots 12 grains of FFg at 20 yds.:


It is impressive considering the revolver was made around 1864-5 and it had some oxide in the barrel. This is some of the oxide I clean from inside the barrel:


Now I plat to make soem retoration and shot is again soon.

Martin - I'd be using 3f in the pistol, but it it shoots OK for you with 2f - go for it.

It was a missprint it was FFFg.
It is incedible how accurate it is as I was shooting onehanded like a gentleman have to. LOL.
