Cassius my work dog died of bloat yesterday He was found in kennels by a work mate and rushed to the vet. He was to far gone and we put him down on the back of the work truck.
Still a bit bummed out about it. I got drunk last night

Thanks Alan
Well the search is now on for a new dog. I could wait till the reteam course and take what ever the school has, but I would prefer to find my own.

That's really bad news. Hope your new dog makes up for it.

Bakes its a sad day when we loose a good canine mate.
They can never be replaced but life must move on.
Remember the good times.

Bakes I cant help but remember the relationship between handler and dog at the RAAF base at PEARCE here in WA.
I owned a property that butted onto the base in West Bullsbrook and for one reason or another was a frequent visitor to the base .
The thing that always stuck in my mind how the dogs responded to their handlers.
It was an amazing relationship.
We all must remember that all these canines are or were members of the Australian Defence Force.

Al

You get quite attached to the buggers but at the end of the day they are a tool. They are their to catch bad guys, find and apprehend intruders and track down the enemy. They will take a bullet for me or a patrol. To many new guys start treating their dogs like pets and forget that they are a working dog. Its sad when one dies but as you said mate, you just have to get on with it. I won't be on a re-team till next year so that gives me time to find another one.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I knew that dogs could die from torsion but not from bloat. Good luck in search of the new dog.
