Help,Help

Being a complete novice. I decided to build my first double rifle in 22LR and after much maching
etc of off set barrel liners etc. It finally dawned on me the Donor. A SKB 100 20 GA. With a
SINGLE Trigger.Needs some recoil (So I have been told ??) to set the second hammer for firing.??
IF this is true. Any information as to the lightest (low pressure) round I could use. With the single trigger set up. Any help appreciated. Whitey

Hi Whitey
Not sure what your SKB is like on the inside but maybe your best bet would be to convert to double trigger,it might be easer than changing your plans. I have seen bottom plates for sale at gun shows with the triggers(not SKB but the triggers would help).

Good luck Dale

Thanks Dale. I will keep that in mind but for now have decided to keep my fingers
crossed and try 32-40 Winchester. Whitey

Whitey,
The SKBs have an inertia pendulum for resetting the trigger. So the answer is yes it take recoil to set the sear for firing the second barrel. When these were first out a friend that sold several of them had them come back as they would not fire the second barrel and this was with 12 gauge. We figured out the the wood needed to be relieved as the weight would rub on the wood and not reset. It was not much wood just a sliver but it did the trick. I am sure a 32-40 would be enough and the .22RF would be a no go.
You would also find a that a 20 gauge action is rather big for a .22RF.
Cheers,
Laurie

whitey, to make sure you get the benefit of all the recoil effect to set the second trigger with low power cartridges, remove the recoil pad if it has one, or fit a hard pad if you cannot get a replacement plastic butt plate.
