Hollis .577 cordite EX..
      #160667 - 19/05/10 06:34 AM

Thats what we like...Back action..Jones under lever..rebounding hammerrifle..

I am sure this particular gun is strong enoughto be regulated for modern full nitro loads.

Its a beauty...

Quote:

A. Hollis & Son underlever hammer rifle with 25" Krupp-steel Chopper-Lump barrels proofed for the 650-90 Cordite 577X3" Nitro Express cartridge. Barrels retain great bores with crisp, sharp rifling from back to front, strong extractors, flip-up ivory (REAL ivory, not a white sticker or paint like some shops use) night sight and excellent black finish. Aside from locking-up nice and tight, this rifle benefits greatly from a recent replacement stock of nice dense walnut, bringing pull to 15-1/8" over silvers recoil pad, also incorporates Holland-style cheekpiece, excellent wood to metal fit and silver initial oval. Rear sight has one standing, two folding leafs, marked 100,200,300 and is transverse dovetail mounted in the quarter rib, which then terminates in beautifully-fit dolls-head extension. Traces of case-color remain on the lever, action and the beautifully sculpted rebounding hammers. This brute of a rifle, complete with pictured accessories, comes impressively fit in the vintage leather trunk case with brass latch and new leather straps. Fine scroll evgraving covers more than half the metal surfaces. A real attention-getter at the range, this is also a practical, useable package, mechanically sound and ready for action against the biggest game. Offered at $34,500

But it's way over priced!

That is a nice looking rifle, but it looks to weigh a ton. It is priced at the stratosphere. On the other hand, I haven't noticed anybody giving away vintage .577 rifles lately.

It should weigh about 13lb or so. Restocked and with some wear but a light nitro 577 not too many out there for sale.

I'm sure that gun belonged to a Melbourne member of the BGRC .He sold it last October.
It was in perfect condition and shot like like a laser.

good shooting

No man-made thing is nicer on the eyes than a double

rifle with exposed hammers with a big bore and island

locks. Though these locks are not island locks, this is

a very beautiful rifle to my eye. Very classically beau-

tiful. It takes you back in time just while contemplat-

ing it...

Just had a first-hand report from sbs470. This must be a remarkable rifle indeed. The information came from a man who knows the rifle and its former owner.

Like I say, nobody is giving away anything in .577. I would be embarrassed to say what my AH .577BPE cost.

This rifle looks better and better.

Jack, That isn't an island lock. It's touching the reciever. An island is surrounded with wood. Just a beautiful back action.

Capt. Curl, Did your source mention if this is a Leonard action or??????

I was just in the neighborhood of that rifle, and was invited to come shoot it.
As I was completely slammed with work and I needed to return to Nevada, I've taken a very graciously offered rain-check.

If I get the chance to run this Hollis before it sells, I will bring a bench and field report here to our forum.

Cheers

AkMike,

As stated, my source was "sbs470" who posted above. Maybe he can answer your question. I don't know the answer.

Also, please see above. I have edited the first post to include the photos and description.

Just stumbled on this thread. What an awesome 577, real elephant gun. Barrels like an axle.
