Adam, out of curiosity, I recall reading of a lion, buffalo and hippo hunt in either Sporting Shooter or Guns and Game over seven years ago, and I was wondering if that was your story? I can't recall the author's name, and it'd be quite an endeavour to go digging through and find the magazine.

Ben, Although I did write a short article about a Lion, Buff and Hippo hunt in 05, I think you are referring to one written by a mate of mine by the name of Jaimie W.

Neale, Yes life is far from dull here and have quite a lot still planed before I head home.
Cheers.

Oz,

Thanks for the photos and stories.

You are living a small part of a dream many of us would wish for, I think mate. Well done and keep it up.

Ozhunter,

you most certainly are having an interesting time. Like Fatboy404 and others I am just a bit envious. Good write up and yes life is dull here compared to your current location. Good hunting.

Greg

A couple more pictures.

A Dow off the Coast of Pemba, Northern Mozambique.

Crossing the upper Lugenda river on the way to Malawi.

We found this Poached Elephant after following its rank smell along a flood plain of a Lugenda river.
As we approached it, a lion got up and move off into the long grass.
We found out later from the anti poaching team that when following up the sign the came upon the body of a poacher. It appears that the Ele extracted revenge before dieing.

Wow, interesting for sure but be extra careful in areas with poachers.

Adam - what kind of poaching - "bush meat" or trophy or ivory/rhino horn is worst?

mouse,
Sadly Ivory Poaching is again becoming a big problem.
Mozambique needs to implement a "shoot to kill" policy but this will not happen.
Zimbabwe has "shoot to kill" in place but unfortunately it is the people in charge doing the poaching.

Hm - I know what you mean - btw I know of an incident where a tracker shot a rhino poacher with a shotgun in the leg - not fatal - it was in Zim - poacher showed up at the trial with a Korean lawyer and the tracker ended up jailed for 6 months...

On a slightly less grisly subject, Adam, and sorry if you've mentioned it before: have you tried the skin-diving at Pemba? Piet, the diver with the shop near the casino, told me they have the second-biggest coral reef in the world there.

Cheers
- Paul

Paul, Although I enjoy Snorkeling and tank diving, unfortunately time didn't allow for this. However I have dived of Zanzabar on two trips but found the reefs pretty ordinary compared to ours.

Yes, Adam, I didn't notice too much colour in the close-in reefs I swam around. Some of the fish were cool, though.
