I don't have any idea why this gun has such a high estimate.
A rebarreled shotgun? 15K-18K GBP! Really?

I've never even heard of the .775 NE cartridge ??? Maybe a wildcat (a Sotheby error ? is it .700NE ? in a converted shotgun ????) best, Mike

Mike

Aren't they using the bore dimensions for 10 bore ?

ie .775"

Like a 12 bore Paradox would be .729"

Seems to be priced in the same range as an original 10 (.775) rifle. It would be nice to know what ballistics they were getting in their loadings.

Sounds as if a new set of barrels were made in 10 bore- rifled, is all. Looks OK in the picture, but sounds overpriced for a 2004 converted shotgun.

Personally, 12 bore rifles are so much easier to get components for and reload for.

And i also think this is over priced for what it is.

Isnt it deceiving to write .775 NE instead of 10 bore rifle?
This goes under the hammer on 14th April let see what it fetches.

very deceiving in my opinion ! I will also bet it fails to sell if the reserve is over £6000, best, Mike

According to the description, the barrels were done by Hambrusch in Ferlach.
It looks like they're trying to get their gunmaker's fees out of the sale.
At least (if it was indeed done by Hambrusch) it's likely done right.
He's done 700 nitro rifles, perhaps he's worked this thing into semi-hotrod status.
Still, it's 'just a conversion'...

Cheers

Hambrusch does good work, and it looks like a fun gun to play with. As to what it's worth, I am sure I will not be the high bidder.

I have seen it listed on a british homepage http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/empiregunsight/Stock.htm

It was listed for £18K.

The " 775 NE" most have been copied from the 1996 GD artical " Its a .775 Rigby"...where the author had a similar gun made by Paul Roberts. The barrel on that gun were also made by Peter Hambrush.

If the barrels and ballistic should be the same, which I have a feeling it has, the barrels has 1:41 in twist, regulated for a 870grain bullet backed with 60grains BlueDot. Velocity= 1600Ft/sec.
Caselength for the rifle = 2 7/8".
As far as the price..I recently asked a british gunmaker what a set of 12bore paradox barrel would cost to my "old" Rigby ballgun. price were approx £11K..give or take a little.

Bit like my Dumoulin at Holts a couple of weeks ago which sold for £4800, they built it to see if they could compete on a "mass produced" double with Heym and Merkel, they used a Browning B25 action (dunno what that cost them) but barrels and regulating for the .470 come in about £5000, they had it in storage for a while, tried to sell it at Holts with a £6000 reserve, it failed to sell, I got in touch with someone in the trade who told me they would unload it for £5000. I agreed to £5000 if they put double triggers on it (previously a single inertia trigger, not a good idea on a DG rifle !) which they did. Why a converted 10 bore shotgun should sell for that money I have no idea ?
best
Mike

Mike

Your comment about "previously a single inertia trigger, not a good idea on a DG rifle !)"

I sometimes wonder why gunsmiths do such things when we all know it is not the best of ideas LOL

10 bore paradox ballistics. Did the gun sell?

Judging a gun's value, by what it cost to have new barrels made, will over-price any gun.
A car is not worth what all the parts cost to buy separately - nor is a gun.
My gopher gun is not worth more (in $$) as a 'whole' to anyone else, than what it's new barrel cost me in total. imho

That said, I'd like to own it - looks like a fun gun for moose, elk and grizzly & just for play.
