Demarteau 9,3x74R
      #157919 - 31/03/10 04:45 AM

I would like to show you my Belgian Demarteau double rifle 9,3x74R. Its my first DR and I have looked for the right one for some years. I bought it a year ago. Its unusual in that way its made by a woman, Jeanne Demarteau. The Demarteau family goes a long way back and they were engravers and producers of shotguns and double rifles. Jeanne started in 1947 when her husband got ill and at least she was in business in 1966 when this DR was made. I know about one more that looks the same in Sweden and it have probably been one more. The importer is not alive anymore and his business is closed. Many Liege built weapons look alike. The parts were produced in small workshops and sold to those who put the parts together. This DR shoots well, at 90 meters 40-50 mm. But in cross. It has a simple but well done engraving. Wood and metal are fitted good together. It was mounts on it and I had put on a Zeiss with red. Barrels made by Falla. In my opinion it looks like a double rifle of good quality, not the best though.

That is a fine rifle and looks to be quite serviceable. Thanks for posting.

Sville,

Nice looking rifle in a great caliber. I find its origins interesting and pretty cool actually. We have our fun with women in pictures and as subjects in engraving but it is good to be reminded that they haven't always been there for just decoration.

Cheers,

Buchseman

Andreas: I havenīt loaded myself. I am thinking of doing that. This groups are with RWS 18,5g. But I would prefer a more developed and modern bullet. Any suggestions? I have very good contacts at Norma.
Glad you like my rifle. Its very smooth and handy to hunt with.

I would buy a box of 18,5g oryx to start with, and see how it shoots, if it still crosses i would start hanloading for it. I really like the rifle, nice to see anything else then suhler and chapius in our woods.

Very nice gun. Love the checkered butt with no pad on it. Does it kick hard as a result, though? Looks beautiful . . .

Good hunting!

Thanks, no it doesnīt kick hard. Itīs very ok shooting with. Mostly I use it with the scope on, which makes it heavier. /Staffan
