A nice 5x6 taken in Western South Dakota a couple of years ago.

Sorry, don't have any field pics. Also, not sure how to make the pics smaller so they don't take up all that space.

Also, bad timing by me to close my eyes. Makes me look like I was on something.

After shooting this one and his female companion, I tagged him and drug him to some weeds so nobody would find him. Saw some people sneaking out when I was on my way in. Then I went back to the ranchers house and called for backup, which is the other guy in the pic. Super nice guy. Anyways, we got to the deer at about 10 pm, and then we couldn't find him in the dark. I was starting to get worried that somebody had taken him, when we finally stumbled upon him. Guess I had hidden him too well.

I spotted this deer from a long ways off and spent the better part of 2 hrs working my way up to finally getting the shot. Would crawl up to a rim and peek over it to make sure of were he was, crawl back and work my way closer, then do it again. There were 4 other smaller bucks and about 3 does with him. Had over 20 cactus needles in my left elbow by the time I got the shot, but it was worth it. Unofficially scored 164 B&C, dressed about 225lbs. 19 1/8" Inside spread.

Some great looking deer those guys are showing up thread. Hope I can get one like them some day.

This past season we took a very special deer. My Dad is 82 years old. He drove out from Oregon to Montana and picked up a Montana B whitetail doe tag.

Dad told me after he took this deer, that because for the past 20 years he had to take care of Mom who was in poor health, he hasn't been able to go deer hunting. This man introduced me to hunting 50 years ago and to get him back in the hunting fields after so many years makes this one special deer!!!

Little 3 point Whitetail. As you can see, I've already started peeling his clothes off. 7x57BRNO - 140gr. Combined Tech @ 2,940fps - 3-9X M3200 scope set at 4X - range 35 yards - 1st blood for the rifle. Bullet ended up underneath hide off shoulder. Lung shot behind elbow not possible - his doe covered that spot with her butt. Had to shoulder shoot him. Terrific bullet performance in spite of the bone it went through at high velocity.

Baby (deer family) moose yearling, ie: 5 months old - 9.3x57, 270gr. Speer @ 2,300fps MV factory iron sights - range 200 yeads slightly uphill. Smashed on-side 2" diameter leg bone, penetrated both lungs. Good performance in spite of bone hit - took out 2 1/2" of the bone, blasting it into shards. One chunk penetrated one lung as well.

I got a few to add..here goes:

Desert mule deer from southwest New Mexico, using an original deluxe Winchester 1886 in .33 WCF:

Minnesota white tail taken with an original deluxe Winchester 1895 in .30-'03:

Same MN deer on the meat pole outside my buddy's shack (just because this looks really cool to a guy from Texas):

And my two oldest boys with the first deer they killed:

taw1126, nice deer there. Where in Mn. did you hunt? I lived there for about 12yrs. They sure do grow some big ones up there.

TAP-
I flew into Bemidji and we hunted about 30 miles east/northeast of there. If everything goes to plan I'll be up there again this November.

What's hard to see in this picture is the ridiculous palmation on the deer that's just a cape & horns on the meat pole. Almost as wide as my hand. My deer was okay rack-wise, not really any better than we get pretty routinely in Texas, but he was much, much heavier than what I'm used to shooting (about 210 pounds field dressed).

taw1126,
Good luck on the hunt this year. I spent quite a little bit of time running around Walker and Park Rapids, just a piece south of Bemidji. Really liked the area. I do love to hunt them backwoods deer.

Taw,

Wow, I like the muley!

My best buck, taken a few years back, on a farm I've hunted for 30+ years.

Taken with a 12 ga. slug gun, at 140 yds.
