Again in Zim last September.
Shot @ about 60m or so - we were closeish, call it 100m+, maybe 150m and hopped out of the Landy. The PH said: "Follow me low, this is going to be quick!"
And off we went in a quick crouch. At about 50-60m we stopped, he quickly pointed out the stallion and just as they took off, he whistled, they stopped, I fired!
Perfect shot (again, a-hem). .30-06, 180grs Speer Grand Slam. The stallion run less than 100m.
The PH and tracker had a dandy time mimicking the stallion's reaction at the hit. He was mighty pleased with the good hit (the PH, that is; not so much the stallion...)

My mates first Zebra. Taken on our first hunt in South Africa in 2001.
We were hunting in the Northern Province. Our PH was Lumpie Grobler. The other young chap is the apprentice PH. If I remember correctly, his name was Nicko Blomb. If anyone knows what became of these chaps, I'd love to hear.

Doesn't he look chuffed.

This was my first Zebra. Actually, it was my first African animal. Same trip, same place.

If the chap in the above pics looks big, it's because he is.

Mother in laws Zebra. Mother in law came along on our 2002 hunt. She, with the wives did the Cape Town and Garden route tours hunting the elusive curio.

When the ladies joined us at the farm. Mother in law expressed the desire for a zebra. She said she had shot a .22 as a girl, but had never been hunting in her life. The Outfitter puts on a hunting school for youngsters and put her through the school. The next day he took her out with his culling rifle and set her up and she killed this Zebra. I was her backer upper and did not fire. At age 72 she killed her first animal and became Ouma the Zebra killer. She is 80 now and will pass on soon from lung cancer. She has given the Zebra hide to me and it decorates my room.

Hi HogPilot,

Nice trophies, you mentioned that it was a Father & Son hunt, you didn't mention that you took your Daughter as well.

Cheers for now,

I have two daughters, and after I took this Zebra in 2006, even though the little one likes to go to the field with me they both made me promise never to shoot another Zebra.

That promise was nullified when their dog chewed a hole in my rug, so hopefully one day soon I'll get another one.

I shot this one in the chest quartering to me, from about 50 yards with a .375 Ultra Mag, and the bullet traveled the complete length of the body inside and stopped (just about perfectly mushroomed) under the skin on the opposite hindquarter.
