Small ring mauser 7x57

These are photos of my small ring mauser. It has a pac-nor barrel 24 inches long. Taper is custom as I wanted to use the stock. TomN

More on thei rifle. I got it to do a 35w. it had a 3006 barrel on it it came from a johnson auto rifle form wwII it was so rusted that you couldn't see through the bore. took it to the smith and he wouldn't to the 35 said that action was too small. So I went with the 7x57. Must have made a good choice as I see a lot of people like it. Pac-Nor made the barrel and I had them do a taper that matched the Johnson barrell without the step so its a little heavy but that is how I wanted it. It seamed to take forever to get it back. It has Redfild bases and a 3 to 9 redfild scope with range finder and shoots about dinme size groups at 100 yards. I would like to have the stock redone and the checkering redone but haven't got around to it. I doint know what kind of stock it has other then I like the shape. It dose have a little bit short stock but works well with a havey coat on.

Looks like a J.P. Sauer per- WWI stock that's been refinished with a nasty modern finish. You should strip it, have someone clean and go over the checkering, using the correct type tool, and refinish with oil. Looks like someone replaced the buttplate, too. It probably had a horn plate that was broken or worm eaten and replaced with the current one as it doesn't look like it fits very well. I don't blame you for going to all the work to keep the stock, those pre-war paneled Sauers handle great!

TomN that is a nice rifle except- as A10ACN said- for the glossy finish. I don't mind the dings and scratches on the woodwork, to me that speaks of a rifle that has done it's share of work.

Yes the finish needs to be stripped and a proper finish applied to it.
