Hello everybody

I search any informations and news about wesson muzzleloding rifle. I think it was rifle produced between 1850 and 1870, but there's no a lot of details about these!

Thank you!

I wrote an article on that rifle years ago for Old West magazine but I no longer have it or the research. I do remember that the Wesson rifle had progressive rifling and that was one of its claims to fame as a target rifle... which most of them were. Wesson was the uncle of the Wesson of Smith and Wesson and died at a fairly young age.

There is a replica made on the Wessen pattern - might be a Pedersoli - and might not be made any more. There are 2 fellows who attend the Helfey Creek Rendezvous (BC) who own and shoot these rifles, in .45 cal. I think.

The Wesson was a late period target rifle (obvious by the dates) for the most part and the muzzle was usually turned for a guide bullet starter. The barrel might have been made in Wesson's shop, or could have used a Reminton barrel, as Reminton made those 'muzzle-turned barrels for the rifle parts trade.

I saw a picture of one years ago, with a Swiss-style heavily hooked butt plate for offhand shooting.

Daryl: There's a fellow named Pete Allen who casts the Wesson style boxlock "actions."

Forgot about those - I've seen them but only on the net.
