New Rising Bite DR Now on Searcy Site
      #155162 - 01/03/10 10:59 AM

I just noticed that there is a tab for the new rising bite rifle on Butch's web site.

I notice that a very polite silence resounds on this site in this regard...

Not like the unending comments lavished out by an admiring crowd on another well-known site.

This from people who'd look at a Corvette and a Ferrari side-by-side and would comment: "Both are red, I'll buy the American one!"

Not sure about others, but if I comment on one site, then I don't on another site with the same topic unless it is a good discussion.

To break the silence, It is a damn fine piece of workmanship,
I would like to see one in the flesh so I could compare to an old, old, Rigby.

Personally, I prefer the old Rigby style of lock plates, but that is a personal preference and probably just what I am used to.

Most of the posters here do not go to the other site so anything you post here will be new. A few of the posters here have been banned for calling BS on the local favourites over there.

I spoke with Butch for about a half hour the other day about this new offering. It is a true reproduction of the old Rigby Bissell action and parts. He dose offer to make an exact duplicate of the locks, engraving, everything as the old style Rigby would be.

If a guy wanted to he could even ship the gun to the proof house over seas I imagine, and have a London proofed gun.

Nice thing is Butch is very good at what he does, and he's willing to make a deal to make a client happy. Another bonus is his delivery time.

Looks like a win-win to me.

New topic for me too. As for repeating comments made also elsewhere, well that "other" site/forum was originally created to try to eliminate this one. Please feel free to discuss stuff here too.

There seems to be quite a bit of animosity about the "other" site. Is it AR ? Whats the story/history behind the "animosity" best, Mike

Slightly off topic, or maybe going back to the topic , do any of you know who fabricated the original rising bites? Both Rigby and Bissell both used them and from what I have seen they appear to be the same action. Did Rigby make them and sell them to Bissell? Was it the other way around? Or did they both make the actions?

Rigby-Bissell held the patent for it. I believe Rigby the company actually made them in house.

I haven't seen one with the name Bissell on it but that doesn't mean that it didn't occur !!!

Take a look, this is a picture I found of a Thomas Bissell shotgun:

By my eye, they both used the same action. The only information I have on the Bissell company is from the Nigel Brown book; the last date it lists is 1891. I guess that points to Rigby having made the actions (didn't they make rising bites into the early 1900's)?

That's a nice looking gun - considering he owned the patent with Rigby, it is not surprising he used it LOL.

Yes, they made them into the 191X I believe and switched over to the Webley actions around or by 1921 I think - would need to check my notes to see the exact date.

My Rigby rising third bite is 1905.

I didn't want to sell.

This one would look good sitting next to my 12ga Rigby rising bite. I would like to have one in a DR but the prices are just too much. Besides, as a bird hunter the shotguns see more use than a DR would.

That's ok - I've always wanted a 12ga Rising bite so since you can't buy a Rising bite DR, how about selling me the
12 Ga you have ?

Are you talking Animosity between NE and AR ?

or on AR ?

Didn't know of any between NE and AR but animosity on AR
I can understand - plenty of it there as you get a few dickheads who sprout BS without checking the facts.

NE is a much more civilized forum.

I was wondering if that is the one you still have. I'm pretty happy with my little Rigby HV though.
