And just to show your photos do not have to be so impressive as those, my own more modest tuskless cow photos.

Gentlemen,

Don't worry if they have been posted before, the "game threads" are a collection by animal species, and are aimed to be a permanent record on NE.

Save Zim:

If you have noticed - all the time there was a second cow there somewhere (see the tusk difference) that ended much closer than the one in the sequences (it is the one you don't see that will kill you )

XAUSA are you Johnny Depp's father? He looks like you.

As always, you have nice trophies. You were so fortunate to hunt in that golden age, both time and place. Any photos of your trophy rooms?

Here's one I actually did take with the .458 Teck. This was in Kenya in 1971, up near the Tana River. The old guy had recently broken off the other tusk and the nerve was still festering. The one remaining weighed in at 94 pounds. Had the nerve not been so large, it would have gone over 100. He was on his last set of teeth and they were so worn down he would not have lasted much longer at any rate.

This one was taken in the Selous in 1972. The ivory was long and relatively thin: ran about 75 pounds to the side, which is pretty good for the area. I climbed up on top of a termite mound to shoot this one, since I didn't have a ladder handy. One shot behind the ear did the job.

This one nearly killed us... shot less than 3 yards away, unprovoked charge.

I have not been fortunate enough to be able to hunt elephant yet

So some live ones is all I can post

In a line, heading for water

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if the elephant had continued and these two had met.

From The Hunting Report http://www.huntingreport.com/worldupdate.cfm?articleid=550
Quote:

100-Pound Jumbo Taken In Namibia (posted November 04, 2010)

We have just received word that a 105.3 x 101.2-pound tusker has hit the ground in the Nyae Nyae Conservancy (formerly Bushmanland) of Namibia. (See photo below.) The PH for this hunt was Kai-Uwe Denker, who has been producing numbers of 80-plus-pound bulls from this concession from the past several years. The lucky hunter was Thomas Oechsner from Germany, Denker's last client of the season.

As Denker tells us, "Thomas turned 45 during his safari, and we had a really great hunt. On the seventh hunting day we took up a huge track and eventually caught up with a very thick-tusked bull with a huge head. We circled and positioned ourselves in front of the oncoming elephant, which advanced to within 10 paces when he became aware of us and faced us with head held high and outstretched ears. Thomas brought him down with a frontal brain shot from his 10.75x68 double rifle. The tusks were officially weighed by MET game ranger Dries Alberts. The longer right tusk has a length of 1.96 meters (6.4 feet) and a circumference of 55 cm (21.7 inches) at the lip."
