My cape buffalo, only one so far. I have a half passable photo of it, "in the flesh" somewhere on a transparency. I actually had run out of film and had purchased some Kodak film in Zimbabwe in 2002, and it turned out to be quite faulty. And the cape buffalo photos are what had suffered. So did not have a lot to choose from.

Anyway here are some photos of the shoulder mount and some other goodies.

An old bull, not long in the horns at all, but I was happy to take him as the first buff, as I had two on the quota. Hunted hard for the second but never connected.

I was happy to even get a cape buffalo at all, as this was the hunt where on day 3 in the Gwayi Valley when the "warvets" turned up and turfed us all, outfitter/owner and all off the property. A week later we managed to get a spot in the HHK concession in the Matetsi Safari area and take this old bull.

Here's the result of about three minutes of fast shooting. Tanzania, Selous, 1972.

Sorry I don't know how to post it.

Here's a little one.

Sorry I haven't mastered putting them on here yet. Thanks anyone who wants to try (ozhunter did a nice job on another thread).

Ahem, well, yes, it's my Krieghoff .458 Winchester Magnum Teck box lock over and under. Actually, I used my wildcat .505 SRE on these three and only carried the .458 to do some "let's make sure he's really dead" shots. I was trying to peddle Krieghoff DR's at the time, and thought the photos might look good in advertising material. They must not have, since I had a hard time selling them at $2500 a throw.

The .505 did its job. Three buff with four shots. Only the one I was sitting on actually required a second shot, and he was sick enogh I think he would have gone down, too, if we'd left him alone. Better safe than sorry.

With everything except buffalo the tracker used to walk up and poke the animal in question in the eye with the shooting sticks to see if there was any reflex. If not, they could start skinning.

With a buffalo, they walked up behind him carefully and twisted his tail, presumably so that if he came back to life he would be pointed in a safe direction. Wise move.

Thanks for posting it, NitroX.

Xausa, it was a nice touch, dropping them all together like that

I like 93mouse's top photo of the lone bull, too. It reminds me of the last pic in EH's 'Death in the Afternoon'.

He even blew the head off one!

Those double and triple buff photos like that look great, but if planning for shoulder mounts in hot weather you might have a problem. No problem if doing Euro mounts though.

Heres my bull from Save Conservancy, 2009. Got him thick grass at about 15 yards. He ran and when we found him, he had done a u-turn and we think he was setting up to wait for us. Going back in 2012 for another one and a tuskless elephant.

The African buffalo is my favorite animal. I'm hoping that I win the lottery to hunt a good example . Dreaming is free .

Greetings and great photos,

For a cheaper and fun alternative you could always do this.

Cape buffalo cow hunt.
