Chapuis scope mount and rings?
      #153557 - 13/02/10 04:53 PM

Anyone have any experience with Chapuis factory mounts and ring set up for a Chapuis double rifle? Good, bad, so so? Recommendations?

They don't make their own mounts. The QD ones from Recnagle or EAW mount easily. Available from NEGC or the factory.

IIRC mine are the EAW side swing ones and work great.
Just a FYI also.. The factory really tightens up the screws for the blanks in the rib.. After ruining several turnscrews I drilled the heads off. Then finger pressure for the shank removal..

Hi hoser,

Recknagel has the exclusive manufacturing rights for Chapuis and then sells them back to Chapuis for "On Sale". They will not sell direct to an individual, only Chapuis supplies them. I had the Q.D. Pivot mounts on both the DR and the Challenger, always returned to Zero, love them and suggest you go with them. My current project although not a Chapuis is getting the same style from Recknagel.

Cheers,

Is NEGC the only place to buy? Can any competent gunsmith mount them or would you take to a double rifle expert?

Hi Hoser,

If you have the same model as I did, there is two sections in the rib that has 2 screws in each, they un-screw and the base mounts then screws into these so any competent gunsmith should be ok with this even you, any gunshop that sells Chapuis can get them from the Importer in the USA then it is the same procedure as with any scope mounting.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Dale Nygard handles them and has offered a couple of 'group buys' on the rifles. I'd suggest calling him . If you do tell him I said Hi!

www.heirloomarmes.com/inventory.htm

Ken of http://www.kebcollc.com/ also imports them and has a sterling reputation

The next question will probably be'what scope?' I use a Leupold 1.5X5 on min and love it. Others ahve gone to the Leupy 1.75X6..

Any recommendation on 30mm vs 1" and scope recommendations (200-250 yards)?

Yeah, I'm going to research scopes, which I'm sure there are topics. That will determine rings. Fixed or adjustable? Leupold vs others? More to decide!!

Here's how mine looked up until recently,

Dang i hated that thing, so my Chapuis is off now having a claw mount installed... When it comes to going on and taking it off, the claw mount has that swing mount beat all to hell! The claw is just so much faster and easier to use...

How does the release work with those mounts. What has to be done that makes it slow?

Al

These look very similar to the mounts on my K gun except mine is a bridge type set up. Basically the round knurled wheel on the rear base is rotated. This action retracts a small claw upward into the base and off the left hand dovetail. From there you just swing the whole thing to the right until its at 90 degrees and lift it off at the front of the rib.

Mine is called a "G9 Plus" and I think its by EAW.

Cheers.

GG

GG
Thanks for that. I've never handled that type of detachable system, but have seen them in photos etc and wondered how the release actually worked.
I think the G9 Plus is a Recknagel mount.

The EAW pivot mount system is very good and can be operated really fast.
I've used EAW's for quite a few years and like them.
You just push a little lever and rotate the scope.
Just as fast as claws IMO.
There is a dude here doing a demo at a very ordinary pace.

GG has explained how to release the scope and take it off...

The thing is, you have to be "very" precise on how you hold the scope to get it started and while swinging it. With the claw, even if your in a hurry, you don't have the AWKWARD "down, swing, and then turning a wheel to lock" it on. With the claw, you just push the front foot in, and continue to push the scope down, all in one motion, until it locks...much faster and a much more natural movement.

If your just trying to get a scope on your double, i don't think it much matters, but i many times i carry my scope in my pocket or pack, and snap it on only for long shots. The claw mount works so much easier, with much more natural movements, especially if your hands and fingers are cold...it's a no brainer.

DM, so the mounts/rings are the Recknagel set up?
