CZ550 Project Continues. Part 2.
      #151868 - 26/01/10 09:57 AM

Hi All,

I received a welcome surprise this evening when an Email from Alex Beer sent another 5 photo’s. During today Alex completed the Stippling to the front sight and the ¼ Rib along with the Silver center line on the fixed rear sight.

In addition, Alex fitted the Low Light Front sight so here are the pictures I received.

Front sight with low light bead in the down position.

Front sight with low light bead in the up position.

Rear sight with Silver center line.

Completed ¼ Rib with sights adjusted to 50 & 100 yards.

Overhead view next to a Westley Richards Double Rifle.

There will a break in proceedings as Alex is off to the Wild Deer Hunting and Guiding Expo in Rutherglen Victoria and then off the S.C.I. show in Brisbane Queensland.

Alex has asked me to let you all know that he is going to be at these events and looks forward to meeting with as many of you as he can.

I am already looking forward to Alex’s return as when he does I will be getting him to complete a little “Brother” for this one, but that’s another story.

The stock work will be starting shortly and I will keep you posted on the progress,

Anyway, Cheers for now,

Jeff Gray

That is one good looking rifle. The end result should be worth the wait.

Hi Rule303,

Yes, it is hard waiting but it is getting closer, I have the stock at home with me and Ross Waghorn has done a wonderful job and is going to get another blank from Rodger Vardy to try and match the timber as he is now going to do another stock for "Son" which will be in 30.06 now that "Father" is almost complete.

The metal work is with Ron Croxon for a little engraving then it will be off to Alex Beer to do the rust blue so by mid July it should be home.

Thanks for the compliment,

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Hi JSL3170,

The rear sight just "Taps" out, leaving a "Lump" which was machined off, the front sight is sweated on so just re heat to remove.

There will be more photos in due course but it metalwork is with Ron Croxon the engraver for some work then back off to Alex Beer for the rust bluing.

As for the stock, Ross Waghorn finished it about 3 weeks ago and I have it now at home awaiting the metalwork for assembly. The stock is magnificent in my eyes and I will show the forum as soon as it is possible.

Cheers for now,

Jeff Gray

I have a 550 too. Did you keep the factory barrel because it shoots well? Mine shoots better than I can make it!

Any commentary you can offer on the design elements of the stock would be great, too!

Cheers!

Jeff

Hi jsl3170,

Your right, the barrel shoots super and it is a hunting rifle. As for the stock, keep your eyes open for the Part 3 where I will provide details of the stock and the complete article.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray
