Pass me the Rigby pleezz..
      #151830 - 26/01/10 03:53 AM

Highly inspired by this forums members and their "ball" guns..I decided acquire this thing here..

I am not much of a shotgunman, but as a good compromise for my affectionation for "Rigby..backactions...jones underlever hammerguns....bigborerifles"..this baby did fit collection + I can go shoot when invited for a birdshoot.

DarylS is one of those that has inspired me..

A Rigby 12bore shot & Ball gun from 1905. Steelbarrels. Dollsheadext.

Wow! Jens, that is a nice stick of wood. I really like the rib too.

That seems like a really useful gun too. I've never hunted pigs, but imagine a roundball gun to be well suited to the task. With birds too, that gun should see a lot of time outside.

Daryl is the man when is comes to advice for balls for sure.

Thanks Gents.

Good quality, epecially when buying old guns are essencial, if one should have pleasure in using them. They are joyful to have. I most admit that I often find a good vintage gun in the safe to look at at night when kids and wife are downed in bed.

What type of rifling did Rigby use in their Ball and Shot guns?

Thanks Curl..

....been out here today on the trap & sportingrange....I was very surprised it was able to hit anything at all with the Rigby. The gun is not a traditional lightweighted english sxs, but has actually weight distributed in the "ballbarrels". It feels like as a small doublerifle.
Once I got the hang of it, I was able to pull these claydisc down over 40 yards with no7 pellets.
The barrels on this particular gun controll the "swing" for the left arm the barrels are resting in, when shooting on fast moving targets. Shooting with hammers & Jones underlever, I easely incorporated procedure, so I could almost as fast as the other shooters load, pull hammers, shoot and extract emty hulls.

Well done,

I made enquiries about this one to Wayne Hurt @ Cotswood. A lovely piece to be sure but I was seduced by a lovely Lawson .450 Ex DR. Hell of a hard decision as they are both beautiful in their own way. Enjoy....

Yes, Wayne Hurt is a fine gentleman - had a lengthy chat to him at the CLA last July. On the forum you asked if the dealer selling the Paradox was the same gent selling the Explora? The dealer is Giles Marriot and he did have a Fauneta recently at £9000 but it has since sold - I did not see an Explora in his stock list. I am viewing the Paradox this weekend and, hopefully, I will get to view all his other treasures! I first made an enquiry about the Paradox in January but I have only just recieved the pictures! Giles would benefit from a website like Wayne has at Cotswood but Giles is, I'm sure, too busy as he is running a farm as well.
Which part of Denmark are you in? I work for KLM and my job (Aircraft Engineering Lecturer) takes me around the world. In 2005 I did a few jobs in Aarhus and Helmstad (Skyways Aviation) - I like Denmark!
The Rigby is lovely and has 'The Name' as we say. I have a H&H shotgun which is a beauty and of course the Lawson .450 express which is pictured in the DR pictures forum.
Please let me know how the Rigby performs!

Best Regards

Garry.

I live just north of CPH. I`LL keep you posted with the Rigby. As so far me and "it" did well on the sportingrange:LOL
I actually thought Wayne only did in shotguns, but i see now he has a .500BPE for sale aswell

Glad you like Denmark.

My inquirery regarding the paradox to Giles:

Giles did reply after some 4-5 weeks later, stating it going for a "fresh-up"..:

I did have the observation Giles wasn`t the fastest guy using the "net"...hahahaa.

Oh well I would have bought it...but Giles didn`t knew to send pictures via e-mail .
The paradox I am looking for must have a POW grip...

Congratulation with the gun . Next time I am in England perhaps I could get to see it?

All best Jens

Halo Jens,

Your experience with Giles is the same as mine - I waited 6 months for the pictures! I can see that it has been 'freshened' up but I think his price is reasonable. I will view it on Saturday and let you know what happened. If I buy it you are most welcome to come and see it when you next visit England. Even if I do not buy it, you are still most welcome to come and see my collection!
Never been to CPH, do you hunt nearby??

I must close now Jens, speak soon.

Regards

Garry.

God skydning!

Hallo Jens,

Sorry, I forgot to comment on Wayne's .500 BPE - this is new for him, I have not seem him sell a double rifle before. I must keep watching his website in future!
Also, I agree with you about POW grips - they are my favourite and maybe the reason I do not buy this paradox??

Garry.

I also wrote Giles regarding the paradox. I did get an almost immediate response from a Ms Marriott who stated Giles would be getting in touch with me shortly. That was 4 months ago. He has certainly priced the gun to sell as it seems he could have sold it several times over months ago.

Jens & gatsby. I visited Giles today - he certainly has a treasure trove there! I did not buy the Paradox. This should not stop you guys from buying it, it just looks a little too refreshed and restored for my taste so I am going to wait until he gets a hammerless double in that I can afford. Down to details; the paradox bores are .739 and .742, the chokes are reasonably sharp and are .695 as measured by Giles in my presence. The top strap is about 30-40 thou proud of the comb - Giles said it is from India so the heat has shrunk the wood a tad below the strap. The stock has really nice figure! The forend is very fresh looking but matches the butt stock. It is on the face ok. I think it is a good buy at £6000 but just not for me.

Giles sends his regards Jens - I told him that we have talked on this website.

One last thing, he has an awesome Lang .475 No.2 in it's original case with all accessories, just beautiful except for the price, which is £18,500!

Hope this info is useful.

Regards

Garry.

Well...the paradox I`ll be looking for must have POW grip. When I am to buy a paradoxgun, it must be shot & regulated with new ammunition, verified on a target, which I would have asked Giles to do or any other seller for that matter.

Thank you for sharing useful info...

Great news!!!!!.

My gunmakers has gauged the barrels on my Rigby with something called a " 3 dot/point laser caliper"... THE Barrels are OVAL...yeeeehaaaaa!!!. Lancaster oval bore/rifling it is. More to come later. Right now I have white fluffy wings and can barely touch the earth:LOL
