Looks like a re-designed R93. Any comments?

Hmm. The magazine and trigger system is integrated, which means if you want to carry a few extra mags, they'll be cumbersome and most likely very expensive...

I noticed that the R8 is also available without the removable magazine, which as far as I can tell makes it into a plain old R93.

So it seems to me that it's another typical Blaser move of making something that's not really new, while appearing to be, just to sell some more products.

Looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down ! Why some folk buy crap like that when for less money they could buy a nice Mannlicher bolt, for example, is beyond me (unless Blasers are less than I thought they were). They sell quite a few here in Spain,
oh well, one mans meat is another mans poison as they say... best, Mike

Some years ago I bought an older Brno ZG47, IMHO the best ever of the "improved Mauser actions",here in Germany. When I collected it, the country gunsmith/dealer noticed the trademark on my gunslip: "Wow, you dare to stuff a cheap and ordinary Brno rifle into such a noble Rigby slip?" My answer:"A ZG47, of course. But I will never pollute it with anything made by Blaser!"

Comments on the new Blaser R8.

One good feature is when the rifle is cocked the illuminated dot on the "illumination control" Zeiss scopes is switched on. A sensor in the eyepiece recognises the position of the cocking slide. A great idea if it works!

The magazine capacity has improved with an additional cartridge capacity. For example in the "magnum" calibres the capacity is now 3+1 rather than the R93's 2+1. A magazine capacity of just two rounds always seemed a bit limiting.

The removal trigger/magazine makes the R8 safer for storage ie the trigger can be removed and stored separately.

However one would hope the trigger when attached would be solidly attached with no wobble or looseness. Wouldn't want it dropping out at an inconvenient moment! I see there is an option of top loading through the breech and a locking device locks the trigger/magazine in place.

Also the addition of three big bore chamberings ("in preparation") of .458 Win Mag, .458 Lott and .500 Jeffery.

While a bit of sacrilege on NE, I quite like the R8 Black Safari model.

This bit confuses me, the only increase in capacity is in '06 diameter cases (3 to 4) and WSM diameter (2 to 3) - traditional magnums: .300 Win, the Weatherbys and .375 H&H, will remain 3+1 the same as is found in the R93.

I've not seen the diameter specs of the recenly released Blaser magnums, but now I'm tipping they are the same as the WSMs and hence the increased capacity claims

This isn't correct. I just recently used a standard R93 in 416 Rem Mag, and it took 3 in the magazine.

To me, this seems like a bureaucrats solution to a non-existent problem. A gun should be stored securely in the first place in my opinion.

Sounds like a good way to lose the trigger assembly.
