Anyone got their hands on a Sabatti DR?

How's the quality?

I looked at 3 of them at the Cabela's booth at DSC week before last.

They were about what I expected for $5,000.

Nuff said.

I bought one of the 45-70. Haven't been able to shoot it but once 10 rounds. Very Very tight action. Almost too tight even lubed ets. Well done otherwise, but a light piece for sure.

Are the hammers external and do the shells eject? Does it only come in 45-70?

Look around in this area for a few discussions on The Sabatti. It's hammerless and up to a 500 NE with the bigger stuff at some point in the future... maybe. Ejectors.. not yet but someday maybe

Yes, they do come in other calibers, but have gone quickly given their low price. Check Cabelas as they seem to be the only ones with them at present. I think I saw a 470 last week....Good luck.

There has been a lot of buzz about these guns and their low price. The NE calibers all weigh in at about 9 1/2 pounds. Seems a might light, especially for a .500 NE or bigger. Will definitely hit hard on both ends. I think some of the savings will be spent on ibuprofen...

The "basic" guns are listed on Cabelas for $3,000, in .45-70 and 9.3x74mm.

Picked up one of these ejector rifles in .470 NE last Sunday.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...erarchyId=10473

Just couldn't pass it up based on the price. Guns are a little light. I was quoted 9lb 9oz for the .470 and 9lb 6oz for the .500 NE, so it seemed like the .470 was the way to go. Also fills a hole in my lineup well, as I already have a .50-140/510 NE built on a Browning 1886 action and a Ruger No. 1 in .400 Jeffery. Now I have a working man's double, right up the old Texas T-Bone.

I would say the wood is not spectacular, but very good. Finish is glossy. Fit to metal is excellent. Engraving (apparently machine cut) is rather ornate and I would say well done. Blued metal is polished and flawless. Gun swings and handles well to me, although my prior experience with doubles has been primarily with shotguns. It balances well in the hands and is quick to the shoulder, a lot like good big-bore lever actions, with which I have spent a lot of time.

I have not been to the range with it yet, but when I am ready to spend some more money and make some noise I will report back again. In summary, I bought this gun largely based on type (double) and caliber for price. Although realistically it is in no way the equal of a fine British gun, we will see if it can do the J.O.B. Thanks.

Wow that is light. Congratulations on your purchase. I hope it shoots well and doesn't punish you too much. Give a report. Looks like a nice rifle.

FYI - I recieved a advertisment in the mail yesterday from our local Cabela's (Lehi, Utah). The Sabatti DR in 45-70 will be marked on sale for $2,799 ($200 off) for their upcoming sale. I have two the Remington SPR22 (Baikal) in both the 45-70 and 30-06, so I have my "working-mans lightweight" doubles. I'll hold out for something a bit bigger...

I was just going to tell CR that "great minds think alike". I have the identical setup for my Remington/Baikal 45/70. Don't know about CR, but I got my case from a fellow selling them on GunBroker.com.

Hey guys - I found the Remington cases on eBay. The guy is out of New Jersey. They are great quality and really dress-up my SPR22s. Here's a link to one that he's got for sale right now (great price too!) http://cgi.ebay.com/REMINGTON-SAFTY-LOCK...747723478783914

At last Sabatti has listed its double rifles on its web pages. Last time I looked, there was no listings:

They currently have three in 45-70 at the Cabalas in Hazelwood, MO, I was looking at them Sunday afternoon. Two with vented recoil pads and one solid, they were all very tight as well.

My Sabatti 500 NE is in my hands. All 470 & 500 NE from the current shipment have been sold, allegedly 20 & 10 respectively.

Some answers for the inquiring minds:

They are a bit light in the large bores-less than 10#; I will be adding a mercury recoil reducer after initial shooting.
The recoil pad is a useless POS an will need replacement with a quality pad.
These were regulated with Norma (470) and Kynoch (500); they may eventually be regulated with Hornady at Cabela's request.
Comes in a decent plastic (Italian) case.
Mine has a fine piece of figured walnut, hand checkering and deep Oak Leaf & Acorn engraving.
Mine is very tight.
The Cabella's models are slightly different than Sabatti's catalog rifles. Brass front sight, sling swivel studs and an included scope mount as well as a CABxxxx serial number.

Gotta run.
