Lee Speed Officers Model
      #150485 - 13/01/10 08:45 AM

I can get hold of a Lee Speed Officers Model , No2 I think , barrel has been changed & a few other things , like fore end cap , front sling eye are missing , the guy wants a lot for it & I was just seeing if people thought it was worth as much as a rifle (which is what I would prefer) the carbines seem rarer ?

Any clues ?

Cheers

The military style carbines are more scarce than the sporters, especially the No.2, but if the barrel has been replaced (presumably with a surplus military barrel) then collector value can be expected to plummet. It might still be fun to own and shoot.

Any pics?

Perhaps you could ask the seller to share some info on stamps and markings for my research? Feel free to send me a PM if he doesn't want to share serial numbers on the forum.

No for-end cap - the stock has a horn tip.
The sling eye screws into a lug on the barrel, but could be reproduced.
Finding a barrel - almost impossible - same as No 1 model barrel though.
Could shorten and retaper an MLE barrel - are the original sights there?

I think now it has the end cap , on some it is metal , like on Manlicher , not the bayonet type !

Yes I thought the sling eye would have gone into a fitting on the barrel , the sights I dont know , a lot have the Military carbine sight , I do have a BSA rifle with a carbine barrel on it .
On more investigating , I see these were used in the Wars by Officers , my be why most are rough & not a lot of them ?

Good War trophy for the enemy !

I will try for photos .
