Note the length of the nipple noses, which keep the hammers from curling over the fences. They are easily trimmed back such as these. Also a bit of file work behind the nipple seats can make the nipples 'stand proud' as they should be.
The reason for this modification is to make them look more pleasing to the eye, as the English pattern of nipple to hammer fit should be presented.

I made the call today to the owner. It is out on consignment and he will ring me tomorrow and let me know if it is still there.

It is a Lancaster O/U and is in .577, I do not know if that is .577 BPE or a shorter pistol version. It is hard to imagine a .577 BPE pistol but they were tougher then.

I will post more information as I get it

Regards

Sounds Glorious!

Terrific old hand cannons. Perhaps I'll break down and buy one of the new ones from Dixie.

Checkman-

Go for the 20/20
You won't be disappointed!
Mine is a ripper and tons of fun to shoot.
I have pounds and pounds of roundball that I got ultra cheap from a shop that couldn't move it (new old commercial stock) so they sold it to me for about 1/4 the spot price of pure lead.

If you get one, get a roundball mould to go with it.

Cheers

Glad this is back TTT

I apologise to all interested parties, I spoke to the owner of that gun today and totally forgot to ask if he had any news.

I will attend to it tomorrow, too much on my mind. Sorry to all.

There are plenty of tired back action hammer shotguns around.
Why not build a roundball smoothbore howdah from one?

Hey, Huvius...great idea!

And...for a good kitchen-table and legal "user", pay Uncle Sam the $200 sucker stamp and make up a cheapy.

A Stoeger or some such double chopped to 8 inches with a pistol grip.

I've wanted such a user for a long time. What fun!

And tho Tink's is really the way top go, I think a 12 bore would be, well, interesting.

I had a 19-inch bbl'd, 4 lb H&R singleshot 12 bore that was the "Fat Girl", ie Tonzafun itself.

I think a 2.5 lb Modern Howdah legal enough to show off In Town would be a Hoot.

And in a holster on the hip while skiing would stop at least one wolf from humpin' my leg should such an eventuality present itself...

This gun is easily worth twice that in this country.

As last seen in "Mad Max" (or "The Road Warrior"). Need a good set of leathers and a Pursuit car too.

EXACTLY - not a difficult job, either. If wanting something more modern, for less than the cost of the 'new one', a person can pick up a used 12 bore side by side caplock, and build his own. Perhaps a week of evenings is all it takes to make the stock, another week for finishing and done. 12 bore Howdah!

The hardwood dealers usually have good walnut 'shrots', 2 1/2" side, X about 15X15" for around $20.00 to @30.00 with good figure. Cheap Pedersoli, Navy Arms or Armi
San Polo 12 bore - perhaps $100.00 to $300.00 for the used gun + the wood. All 'parts' are already there, whereas to buy a set of barrels, soldering ribs, good locks, triggers, trigger bar, trigger gaurd - about $1000.00 for parts or more.

A double 12 (or 10) bore Howdah would be a worthwile addition to one's belt - for maurading wolves, both 2 and 4 legged.

Never has a cut down double shotgun looked so good. I saw Mad Max 2 way back in 1982 and I knew even back then (at the ripe old age of 14) I wanted a double shotgun. Just like Max. And the V8 Interceptor and leathers would be a nice bonus.

1982 was 28 years ago. Now I can see the double shotgun and the V8, but do you really still want the leather pants ??

Here. Same gun as cabelas sells, without going through cabelas. I want one myself but can't justify the money for it. They also offer it in kit form for a bit cheaper if you want to assemble it and finish the stock.
