I've seen this question asked in more than one other place this week or so.
Makes me wonder if it's the same person asking, with different log-in handles at different websites.

Judging from the photo on their site alone, it looks like a first-time try at the hands of an unprofessional garage-shop handyman, not what I'd expect to see on a commercial site, not what I'd expect to see from someone with the name-recognition (for what he usually does) as Clark.

I wouldn't (haven't) even bother giving a call or email inquiry (based on the photo alone) -- and for the money there are brand-new properly configured double rifles available -- with proper proof marks and proper warranties.

It just doesn't look right.
Doesn't look professional.
Isn't stocked properly for big cartridges.
Isn't finished well.
The appearance doesn't seem to fit the price point.

Cheers

If I'm shopping in that price range, my $5k is better spent on a real double rifle - a Merkel or Chapuis can be had in that price range.

Don't think the guy in Louisiana is going very far with this one. Maybe his best friend will buy one, but nobody with any knowledge of DR's will.

Personally i like the almost invisible transfer on the monoblock and that 1/12 rib with the unusually nice taper. And the stock would really make the forvard hinged trigger guard come into use.

Damn that's funny!!!

The facet of this kind of thing that I find most puzzling is the 'tavern society' guys with patriot bravado who will (simply because Clark is an 'Mercan) cling to unqualified praise of whatever he'll offer and slight guys like Curl as pussy-ass pinky-flying collectoristis (especially for suggesting something pronounced like 'Sha-pwooese') without ever getting their eyes and hands on a similarly priced brand new (actual) double rifle.

If I recall, the first gasps of this Clark campaign trumpeted rifles chambered in .405 (y'know for more of that genuine 'Mercan-ness)...

I can't for 'the life of me' figure out why someone would even consider such a thing when there are cool old antiques like THIS 3-Barrel Set incl 43Spanish DR floating around out there.

Gooooo figure.

This is a funny thread.

Post the same first post on some forums and people would ooh and ah. Well done.

However I have been forced to add the link to the "Double Rifle Makers" thread ...

Everyone's got to start somewhere and maybe they will evolve over time.

Anyway, here's the pics.

Sorry for insulting anyone, I was just asking if any of the cogniscenti had seen one in the flesh.

If you follow the links to Guns and Gear there's a video of them shooting a 405. Looks kinda neat.

The rifle seen in the video appears as if it would have been a much better example to have as the website showcase of their efforts.

By the way, here are a handful of very good short videos clips of a couple of guys target shooting double rifles on static and reactive targets - rapid reload drills too (at bottom of the page)

the rifle in the video is a turkish huglu, and it might be strong enough for it, actually it did not look half bad, they are the southern part of europe baikal and a bit rough on the inside, on the other hand they dont cost much and a fun to tinker with

Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned that Peter? There might be some company in California start building them into rifles instead if the costly German ones?

Tinker,
Perhaps not, though from some of the responses above I had the impression that I had peed on somebody's flag.
Guess I should have worded the original question a bit better.

Thanks
Pete

Pete-

Nothing against you.

As I said above, I'm seeing a recent rash of very similar questions popping up regarding the Clark website showcasing their double rifle efforts.

I think it's important to note the obvious issues with the 'covergirl' conversion job, and to get those issues out in conversation.
The pictured rifle does not merit the advertised 'base price', furthermore it shows sub-sophomoric design and execution.
The folks at Clark may actually be selling guns of that page, but I think they're doing themselves a disservice by keeping those photographs up on their site.

That thing is ugly.
Anyone who asks my opinion will get essentially the same message, and it doesn't offend me to say so.

Really, if you or anyone else is considering putting $5k into a double rifle -- my opinion is that you should look elsewhere, and there are some nice rifles at that price point.

Points taken. Thanks for expounding.

My original enthusiasm was sparked by all the interest in the recently announced Sabatti D.R.s at a similar price point.
Though availability seems to be sporadic at best.

I agree the pic of the straight grip gun is unappetizing, don't know why they keep it there.

Please do not get offened but you can buy very good doubles for half that price, the Pedersoli or the Remington/Baikal for example.
Those are four rifles at gunbroker.

No offence just reality, a double made on a shotgun action if fine but DR is better.

Pete-

Don't let your enthusiasm wash away.
Five grand is an obtainable sum of money for most guys - even if you need to ditch a handful of other stuff to get it.
It's important to focus on a product that will be worth the effort.

To further flesh-out some of the issues I see with the rifle in the Clark images, here's a peek into what I see in the first 2/3rd of a second of viewing it.

As a metalsmith, the solder joint on that hacked quarter-rib AND the crap seam on the barrels AND the enormous bulge in the right barrel ALL conjure images of the proud orifice of that 'cute dog' above.

Just a FYI.. My 450 NE was built for me on a JP Sauer shotty action and it looks alot better than the pictures I see of these. And it was $1000 cheaper with better regulation.
So far I'm a happy camper except the beast is barrel heavy. But with a recoil reducer it weighs in right at 10 pounds.
