I am seriously considering ordering a barrelled chrome-moly Left-Hand Montana action in 375 H&H. It seems like a great deal and an affordable way to avoid all of the possible problems of an "over the counter Model 70". This seems like, without a doubt, the best deal going.
This is the email response I got from Montana Rifleman:
"A chrome moly barreled action would be $911.00 A breakdown of that price is $490 for the action, $150 for the barrel, $136 for chambering, threading and install,$120.00 for blueing and $15 for shipping."
I've got a few more questions for ya'll:
Should I send the action to a gunsmith and let him install a stock, or should I just buy a drop in stock from someone like McMillan or Accurate Innovations and do it myself?
Do I need to have anything done to the action for it to be ready to go on a buffalo hunt in Africa (polishing, etc)?
Will there be anything else I need to do to this action other than put it in a stock?
What other problems or complications do you think I should anticipate?
Thank you for the help.

I am waiting on a LH action my own self. I have a RH Long action at John Ricks who is building a 404 Jeffery. I'd contact Dan at Montana Rifle to see what the expected delivery date should be.

This is a custom rifle; you should let him stock the rifle. Have safari grade iron sights installed (soldered on). Send him two boxes of ammo you want to hunt with. He'll regulate the action for it. Also, the gun should shoot 1 moa guaranteed. Insist on a test target.

I spoke to a smith in alabama (can't recall name, will get later) about building me a custom left hand gun based on my Rem 700 lefty. He said he would rebarrel it (.416 Taylor), work the action, trigger, bed the stock, install marble sights, crossbolt the stock, add a recoil lug, recoil pad and test shoot it for $1000.00! I ended up buying a double for 8 times that! Funny - he does not like the control feed actions as much as the remington's push feed. He said the control feed has to work perfectly or you can get a jam.
