I just bought a Smith & Wesson model 28 the other day. I paid $350 for it. It's a four inch barrel model. I couldn't pass it up because people don't sell them EVER. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone can help me with the S/N ? It is : S211xxx. Thanks for the help!

Assuming excellent shape, you did well.

They can be had for $300 on up, with some selling for quite a bit more.

Due t the mass of the cylinder, I always check cylinder stop notches for peening, as fast double action can set up burrs on these and the 27's quite quickly.

They are a neat gun, heavy but good shooters, and make the .357 a real pussycat to handle, too.

Nice buy!

Here's mine. A good shooter too, only slightly less accurate than my Colt Python.

5 shots are a group.

25 or so years ago, those could be had for $150, returned duty weapons from various police departments. I made 3 or 4 of them into .44 Specials in the machine shop I worked in at the time. I'd get a .44 Special barrel and bore and ream the cylinder chambers out to .44 Special on a fixture I built in a metal lathe. I still have one of the revolvers. It shoots well.

The 28 is great. At one time I had three of them. 2X 6" models and a 4" model. I still have the 4" model. It's one of my favorites.
