Ruger No1 in .303 British......orders being taken!
      #147655 - 11/12/09 05:27 PM

I am passing on this info as a gundealer in Canada www.prophetriver.com is trying to get Ruger to make a No1 in .303 British, Ruger has agreed but must have 250 orders and Lipseys www.lipseys.com in the US has agreed to buy 50 or more if need be, so if any one wants a Ruger in .303 British please contact the above........these rifles should be avalable in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc but you must contact Clay at Prophet Rivers so he can get the numbers to make this project work, Thanks

Cheers

Steve

How many here on NitroExpress would order one?

It would be a great addition my 450/400 and the 450NE that is coming out so eventually I would have

.303 British
.450/400
.450 Nitro

A good battery of British calibres!

Well, I'm in the U.S., but I've wanted Ruger to chamber the No.1 in 303 British forever.

About 7 years ago I even wrote a short letter to the old man politely requesting Ruger make one for it U.S. and Canadian customers using either the 1A or 1S barrel length.

I still don't care which pattern Ruger would choose, I just want a .303 sibling for my Ruger No.1 in 300 H&H Magnum, another historic and venerable British caliber.

Is Lipseys just putting in a order or would they be Ruger's sole U.S. distributor?

jgrabow: thanks for the link.

I'm wondering if that's a factory piece or a re-barreled custom gun.

I just read on a forum of a guy who worked at Ruger & they made some 303's for the Canadian Trade , the rifles had .308 bore & were tested with .311 and were safe ! ?

So may be !

I want a Ruger Alaskan in 458Win with a Camo laminated stock !

How many do we need ?

Damien from Nioia said:

Ruger has confirmed that Canadian distributor Prophet River Arms has ordered an exclusive run of No.1A's (Light Sporter) in 303 British.

They have not been made yet, in fact they haven't even got onto the production schedule yet, but we are able to add to this order. We have a window of 1 month.

So the answer is YES, we will be ordering a number of Ruger No.1A's in 303 British (Ruger Model # 11348). (This is the Light Sporter)

What specs? Ruger cannot tell us the specs as they haven't scheduled the production yet, but it will almost certainly be SAAMI spec for legal liability reasons. My guess is a groove diameter of .311 with 1:10 twist. (Just my guess remember!)

The amount we order will be based on the number of confirmed orders we recieve from dealers over the next month. This way we can gauge the true market demand and will adjust our order accordingly.

As No.1 production is fairly low volume it could be up to 12 months before we would see these rifles.

Cheers, Damien

So do we go to our dealer and ask them to jump on the bandwagon?

Yes we will order extra on top of the dealer orders recieved but if you really want one I would go to a dealer and put your name down.

Cheers, Damien

Horsley Park Gunshop (HPGS) in Sydney has a post on net with orders being taken for the Ruger No 1A .303 at a fixed price of $1390... at least 6 have been ordered through them and several others through QLD dealers like Cleavers.

I've just ordered one and sent HPGS my deposit... I was nearly going to get a gunsmith project started and have one made up, until I heard the news about the special run in such a classic old cartridge!

Will fit a Recknagel banded front sight and a Kleppinger single set trigger I've had in a drawer for a couple of years

BTW does anyone know of a replacement lower profile safety button?
I've never liked the factory one, and would like to upgrade it...

I am with TillyMan, only at this time I dont have the add ons he does but working at something similar. I have ordered through Cleavers.

To those in the US who want one I would suggest getting onto Lipsey's and those in Canada onto Prophet River as per original post. Those in other countries might want to get onto the importer of Ruger rifles.

Cheers
Greg
