You say regulated nicely ?

Are you basing that solely on the Test target on Cabela's ?

Let's wait and see after a few people have shot 50 - 100 rounds out of the guns.

I have to admit, they look pretty dang nice, and cheap too. I guess everybody can afford one now, and the exclusivity of owning a big bore double is no longer.

So, I've said this before, I believe cheaply made factory doubles drive down the price of all doubles (I really hope not). I suppose time will tell on this.

What I want to know is have the heck can they make them so friggin cheap! A decent set of blank barrels would cost you nearly $1000.00. Do they pay their people with peanuts or what?

Here is what I got from Cabela's. Hope it helps. Please buy them all before I have a weak moment and get in big trouble with my wife !!!!!

Martin,

At this time I have .500 NE, .470 NE, and .416 Rigby. The .450 NE's are all spoke for. We have more on order and have been told first quarter 2010 delivery. There will be ejector models in this shipment. Approximately $500.00 extra for ejectors.

It's interesting that the 450's have gone but the 470's and 500's have not.

I'd wait for the ejector model.

It is just amazing really !

The thing on which caliber to get is the weight in each caliber , the 450NE may handle the best for there caliber , if the buyers handled them , or think like me the 450NE is a do all ,easy to get slugs and now brass , easy to load to & all you need unless your a Pro who needs a stopper or hunt on your own !

Should be able to do a slimer & handy 450NE , which beats out a 470NE , I think ?

But if they are heavy for cailber I would get the 500NE , which is a better whacker than the 470 !

Having said that , I have not seen the 470 do ant thing but fine work too .

I gave them a ring up there in Sidney as soon as I saw their GI listing.
From what I was told over the phone, all the calibers have the same exterior
barrel profile. Therefore, the larger the caliber the lighter the barrels. This
is all heresay as I haven't handled any of them yet. The rifles are supposed
to make it down to Fut Wutt sometime after the first of the year. You'll be able
to dust them for my prints soon after.

now do you believe me i told you guys be patient some said they would never be built and the 577 and 600 will be here to.a step up from the Remington huh.i have been told sabatti is a big rich company with most of their work being done by them.this ahs taken a year to unfold and i was assured those with orders in will be honored and at prices quoted.thats nice but i think you will see these climb in price quickly.as far as dropping the double value if it does it was not to be anyway and was over priced to begin with.england makes fine guns but so does italy and the US.

Yes, Italy, the US and England make fine guns, but don't even think about putting Sabatti in the same league as some of them.

Sabatti make the barrels for most other people so I think they have an advantage in cost.

I just hope they are made to stand up to the big bores without shooting loose but also, that they are regulated properly, that is my one big concern.

They kind'a look like the 20 GA shot gun from their web site. I'm not sure as a manufacture I'd put up a test target with a vertical spread like that. Better to have them on the horizontal than vertical, at least then you can adjust the load to bring them together or apart. With vertical spread your stuck. Of course adjusting for vertical delta is the hardest to do, and that's where the art and mastery comes in.

If I remember right there were some pretty crummy barrels coming out of Italy for a long time. The Pedersoli 45-70.

A double rifle at $5000 that is not well regulated is a WOFTAM.

Better to spend a bit more and buy a Merkel, at least you know you are getting good quality for the money.

I came "this" close to buying a .500 today on my credit card. Cooler heads prevailed - for now.

Whoever gets one please give us a report ASAP.

Cabelas has a 3 day "no fire" return policy. Like hell if I'm not going to fire it!

I was thinking of phoning them up and then getting someone to go and pick one, but I will be in the US in a month or 2 so hopefully will get to look at them then.

I just want to handle one and shoot one and see what they are really like.

I reckon it will take me 4 shots to work out if a 470, 500 or 600 Nitro shoots OK / is regulated - OR at least Side by Side.

Relax gents,

You are getting you panties as twisted as teenage school girl. Many of us are THANKFUL when our $25,000 double shoots a minute of grapefruit. If these $5000 double rifles print two shots inside 3" - they'er regulated.

One thing you can see in the Gunsinternational.com ad from Cabela's is that the top tang extends only to the rear edge of the safety and the bottom tang extends just aft of the trigger guard.
There may be a broken stock in your future... or, maybe there is a bolt going all the way through from under the pad.(?)

Most likely a bolt from the butt stock attaching to a cross member from the top and bottom tang like a Huglu.

I know it is kinda going against the grain here and at Accurate Reloading, but I am disappointed in the lack of the previously-advertised Sabatti in 45/70. There are those of us out there that have no real need for a DG stopper but do need a cartridge good for most US game AND is cheap to shoot. Cheap ammo = more shooting practice. More practice = higher success rate. And higher success rate = more jerky.

I own a Remington Baikal 45/70. It is what it is, a good solid Soviet Ziv. Now, a Sabatti isn't a Ferrari but a Fiat is better than a Ziv.

Sarge!

O.M.G!

The .450, .470, and .500 can shoot their Nitro for Black equivalence as well as the full military power loads.

I only shoot the 350 gr RN in my 104 year old 500/450 NE at 45/70 velocity.

I think the .500 is the best deal. Repeat - 500 NE for $5000.

Curse them for not doing the .577!!!!!

The 470 didn't have a Nitro for Black load.

But your thought process is good.

I know for a fact the Huglu are plenty strong, and the extended tangs are for show. I doubt there is a strength issue with the Sabatti's, its more of a regulation and quality of barrel issue.

In metal working there is a term, a turd is a turd and there is nothing you can do about it.

Are the barrels cut, pulled, 4041 chomo., stress relieved???? Just playing the Devil here, people are willing to throw down sight unseen and untested for these, so somebody better ask some questions.

I guess really what we are skirting around here is the old saying "you get what you pay for", plain and simple. This price just seems too good to be true and I remain dubious.

If Merkel and the others could billed one for this price and still hold they're heads up they would have.

It's probably a through-bolt system. The Italians have long used that system, with Beretta using it since at least the 60's.

The new Merkels have a through-bolt stock attachment. No need for long tangs.
