.275 Mauser Project (So Far)
      #144870 - 31/10/09 03:40 PM

Well AFRO408 emailed me a few days ago and told me that my FN Mauser 98 .275 Rigby was assembled, in the white and ready for testing.

He has quickly dropped it into the original 'Sporterized' military stock that came with the rifle without bedding it. Out to the range last evening to sight in and then some loads today.

These are loads 3,4 and 5.

Load 4, the 160 Speers is only 1cm below load 3, the 140 Sierra spitzers.

Action: FN Mauser 98
Barrel: 25" Lothar Walther 1 in 9" twist
Trigger: Timney @ 2.5 lbs
Foresight: Bespoke by AFRO408 from a solid billet
Rear open Sight: XS Systems Ghost Ring (Not shown, fits to Weaver base)
Scope Mounts: Weaver Grand Slam
Rings: Low Leupold PRW
Scope: Zeiss Victory 6x42 with #4 Reticle

The Bespoke front sight cut from a square billet of steel, uses a shotgun bead and is quite high to allow the use of the XS ghost ring. The rear sight (not shown) fits on top of the weaver bases should the scope fail which is extremely unlikely.

The sides of the fore sight beg to be engraved and I'm open to suggestions.
None of the seven groups shot so far go over 1.3" at 100 yards with two weights and five designs of projectile.

Now to get it engraved, blued, stocked and go kill something with it.

7x57 is as rare as hens teeth her in OZ. Yes, with 140's it will return to the Freestate for Springbok and maybe a blesbok. Mind you, my sons .243 would do the job just as well.
