Hello and lets talk FAMARS?
      #144355 - 24/10/09 09:42 PM

Hello all.

I've been lurking around following this forum for a while now. There are some great threads going on and a great deal of invaluable expertise amongst all of the members.

The reason I started to read through the forum is that I have a great respect for firearms and have had the pleasure of shooting many magnificent pieces over the course of my life, mainly my child hood.

I lost this interest for a while growing up and not always having time to put into it, but I'm trying to get back into it now and make time for some firearm fun.

So let me cut to the chase. As a kid growing up my father owned a gun shop. He taught me the respect and admiration for fine crafted arms. I, now at the age of 40, vividly remember him bringing home pieces from the shop and the two of us taking them out for a couple of shots. Many of which I have seen you guys post in this forum.

Little did I know that half of them he locked away in a safe to add to his private collection.

As a teenager he bought me a .410 single barrel shotgun which I used for a number of years. When I reached the age of about 16 he gave me a SxS 12ga shotgun. A FAMARS. I only now understand that these are not average firearms.

Dad has recently passed away and rather than it being locked away in his safe, I need to care for it.

The problem I have with this I really don't know what it is other than the name FAMARS on it. I have approached FAMARS directly but haven't had a response yet. So I'll stop rambling now.. Here's the pictures. If any of you have any idea of exactly what it is or further history it would be much appreciated.

Regards
Duncan

I agree :-) The ejectors are freaky when you aren't used to them too...

:-)

Happy man here... Wonders what an international phone call can do.. (tisk, technology why didin't I think of that) I have a new friend, Marco, he's made my day. Identifying my gun and the year I received it.

To me it's priceless anyway :-)

Here's his response to me.

Dear Duncan,
unfortunately we haven't the book where there is on the serial number of this gun.So I can't tell you exactly when we did this gun and where we sold it.I can tell you that the name of this Side by Side in 12ga with serial number 67244 is Polluce and we started the production of this model in 1967 and we stopped to make it about in 1977.Probably your S/S was made between 1972 and 1977.
For what is possible to see from the photos, the gun is in good condition and the engraving is very nice and for this reason the value of this gun is around 6.000/8.000 euro.
Best Regards

Duncan,

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on a beautiful gun! Famars are among Italy's (and the world's) finest gunmakers and you have a very nice gun.

There will be a few of us waiting to see what the next treasure that you post is going to be. DO post often and good hunting!

Thanks Mehul.

The treasures are few. I will soon ask another though of something else a bit unique.
