Buffalo hunt in Australia
      #142094 - 16/09/09 07:55 AM

I am considering a buffalo hunt in Australia. I have hunted Zimbabwe for cape buffalo, but thought it would be interesting to hunt the Northern Territory, where I understand the asiatic type can be found. Any suggestions for reputable, fair chase-minded PHs and a source of general information would be appreciated. I would like to take multiple trophies. Thanks!

Hussey

2 outfitters sponsor the forum (see top of page).

Both would give what you want and would be a good start.

500Nitro is correct but I am a little biased towards Graham Williams and hunted with him in September 2007 along with another forum member. Both of us had good success and I have been told by Graham that he has some untouched areas coming up.

Sometimes if you are in the "know" you can get by without the services of the guides..I received an email with lots of pics of buff etc including some respectable buff taken last week and part of the opening is this line (Note number) Quote:

"Just got back from the buffalo hunt / cull.

Yes we did OK about 88 buffalo taken a truck load of donkeys, some wild horses and pigs. Not bad for a party of nine"

End Quote:

Now as i say this includes pics too,Unless i get permission I wont post them though I might forward it to JH if he wants a squiz? Send me an email JH if you want.

Not really possible in the Northern Territory though. For an overseas visitor to get a licence to shoot/hunt they need to go through a licenced outfitter/guide. That is just the rules. Not so in other states ... just the NT as far as I am aware.

A local friend of mine is planning a trip up next year as well with some other friends, and reportedly they end up culling a lot of buffalo where they are heading. Plus other feral beasties.
