Reloading for the big stuff
      #141900 - 12/09/09 01:11 AM

Just wondering-for those who have the big guns (.577 Tyrannosaur, .585 Nyati, .600NE, .700NE and the similarly sized wildcats that get discussed here) Who makes your reloading presses and dies? 75 cents a round for .44 magnum is expensive enough that I don't dare shoot much without reloading, but some of the above run $35-$100 per round. I would assume that somebody makes a press to handle those big rounds. Are they essentially a special order one off item, or are they something that you can order today and have it next week?

Shackleton,

There are a couple of big presses out there. The RCBS Ammomaster is one:
https://shop.rcbs.com/WebConnect/MainSer...;route=.C04J146

Also check the Redding Boss
http://www.redding-reloading.com/pages/bosspress.html

and Big Boss II
http://www.redding-reloading.com/pages/bigbosspress.html

Before spending that much money I would call and ask about your specific cartridge. These presses accept 7/8"x14 dies, but the RCBS can also use 1.5" dies, and the Redding press can use 1.25"x12 dies. Obviously, you need to match your dies to the press.

Someone in Aust made some really big presses at one stage
that can handle anything.

The Australian Master Simplex O-Frame Press is quite large.

It measures 107mm top to bottom inside the 'O'-Frame and has a removeable nut in the top of the frame that holds standard dies and when removed allows the use of (Edit:) larger 1.25x12 TPI dies.

I already had a Lee Classic Turret Press and I really like it, I just had a couple of turrets tapped for my larger RCBS 500 Jeffrey Dies and it works like a charm. I really didn't have room on my reloading bench for a third press (I also have a Dillon 650XL for my 45 Super) ... Not sure if you can make it out in this picture, but a turret with a 500 Jeffrey die is on the bench

The RCBS Ammomaster comes with a 7/8" bushing. I made a 1 1/4" bushing. The bushing is a simple project for any one with a lathe.

Interesting information. I figured there were presses out there for that stuff-just didn't know what people use.
