" "The boss is being a bit slow digging this fox out. Looks like I'll have to do it myself."

"He's in here somewhere, if only that bloody Jack Russell would get out of the road!"

"Nearly there now........."

My 25" Staghound bitch trying her paw at denning. After over 20' of shovelling, we'd run into a solid wall of roots and I was trying to find another way in when Tessa got too excited to wait. Fox was probably only 2 feet from her nose at the time the last pic was taken. It was not a big hole, so it surprised me how well she dug in.

Rather to my surprise, my JRT had killed it. First time she's done this , solo, on a fully grown fox. She's a bit burred-up and it hurt her when the adrenaline wore off, but her tail is up and there's nothing that won't heal. Serve her right for refusing to come out when called. She's not normally so "hard".

They are Anne, a problem fox who wont be
bothering anyones lambs again.

For dog fans this is Ruby,my 3/4 Russell 1/4 Patterdale bitch, who bolted this fellow, dispatched
with my hideous old Astra 12 bore a sporting arm so vile in appearance that I would not have it
sully the pages of this esteemed site! That being said it isn't the sort of job you want your
best bird gun out on!

John.

Being part Patto, your Ruby would be fairly hard. No?

Ruby is fairly young still Peter, and so far is fairly sensible, her father and aunt are half cross
Russell to the Harcombe bred stuff that came over from the UK. They are for my taste TOO hard
The mix seems about right. We shall see.

Clearer shot of Ruby out ferreting. The Pats certainly give a nice spannable conformation good
heads and jaws and smashing straight fronts. Downside for me is many (not all) are kennel fighters
stock breaking nightmares and lacking in sense to ground. As my grandfather used to say "there are
old badger dogs and bold badger dogs, but there are no old, bold badger dogs." Not that we hunt badger here but the point being a dog that goes in like a bull in a china shop is not (despite what
some tyros think) always the best.
The recipe for terriers I reckon is the same as the Little bears porridge...not too hot not too cold,
JUST RIGHT. As I say time will tell.

My brother Gordons Patterdale terriers.
He hunts fox with them in France.
I always wanted a pair and have finally tracked down a breeder in Victoria who has me on his list for his next litter.

Four badgers taken today. I was on den alone with my gjt so no action photos. These ones are badgers number 2 to 5 for this dog.
