My .405 has arrived.

My Simson .405 has arrived. Checks out to be a pretty nice rifle. The wood's nothing fancy but it's lasted for the last 74 years. Here's some details. Simson double rifle in 405 Winchester. BLNE non auto safety. Some case colors remain. 24“ barrels marked “Long Range” and “Specially made for N. C. Daw. Co” Proofmarks 10.2 mm 65 ½ Kmg. 19Gr. Made in Nov 1935. 1 standing and 4 folding sights, folding marked from 200 - 500. Front sight has a hood and silver bead. Right bore near perfect, left has some pitting in the grooves. All screw heads are perfect except for the buttplate screws. Greener crossbolt, and disk strikers. Great Red Stag on the trigger plate. 7lbs 13 oz.

Fine rifle indeed!!.

I saw a similiar rifle marked 6x63R on the internet somtime ago...it was also marked ".240 Flanged"

So when are you going to 'wring her out' Mike? That stock looks short.. Is it?

It seems to fit me okay. It measures 14 1/4" LOP. Being in Alaska getting odd caliber ammo is either a real pain in the neck or a real pain in the wallet. I had some .405 Win and some 7X65R sent to my brother in Missouri. He's coming up on the 29th for our 2 week fly out hunt for sheep, moose and black bear and will bring the ammo up then. Ammo, powder, and primers have to come to Alaska by boat. I've been told by some sellers that a boat may only have 100 pounds of powder on it at a time. That's why we have very little reloading powder up here right now. I went to Sportsman's Warehouse last Friday and the shelves were completly bare.

Wow love it! Great little cartridge as well. I have a Simson combination gun of similar vintage. 16ga x 8 x 57. Great little gun.
