Nope. I haven't, as I've been pretty tied up with work lately. I'd imagine with hunting season coming around the corner I should. Just kind of annoys me that I have to go out of my way for what I'd expect to be common courtesy/service on their part as a vendor...

The site you ordered from can be a great resource - there's also often the chance that whatever it is you're ordering could end up on eternal back-order, and there's quite a bit of self-service necessary to stay on top of things with them.

When I really, *really* need to know that whatever it is I'll be ordering will actually make it to me *at any particular time* I tend to look elsewhere.

Sometimes you can really get a great deal or get hard-to-find items from them, sometimes the experience is much like what you're going through.

Good luck on the stock.

I've been watching "The Ghost and the Darkness" again and just got Patterson's book.... so I decided I'd make over a no4 mk1 action I have. Had a hard time finding the right style of stock, but finally I did, and at a low price. Sarco in New Jersey [sarcoinc.com] has some no4 sporter stocks for $44.50; part number STK310. Bad part is they are covered in black textured paint. I don't know why and I didn't ask. I'm getting busy with the sand paper and stripper, and there is wood under the ugly paint. I'm on my way to a poor man's Lee Speed. Photo's when I'm done.

I thought the SARCO sporter stocks were 100% synthetic?

Did anyone ever hear from the original source, post #1?

I think Sarco had some synthetic stocks too. The ones they sent me are wood; a very hard light colored wood. They were very "modern" with roll over comb and long fore end. I have trimmed them down and recontoured them into a more classic look, then I'll stain and oil finish. When I'm done, I'll go hunt down some man-eater lions.

Recently, gun-parts.com was still showing walnut sporter stocks for the smle no1 mk3.

I stripped off the black paint. Shortened the forend by a couple inches. Got rid of the monte carlo rollover cheek piece and reshaped into a shadow line. Finally rubbed in a MinWax stain and oil, "jacobean" color. Likely looks better here than in real life due to my wife's high skill with the digital camera. We'll do a full photo shoot when the whole rifle is ready.

I have a Lee Speed Sporter by Blanch of London. Carbon copy of the rifle Paterson used. Bore pristine but has been stored on its side at one time and a little pitting on the top cover. 5 shot mag, ebony forend tip, horn butplate, full length rib, express sights to 300 and barrel mounted sling swivel. I assume it will be regulated for 215Gr RN's but of course anything will work. I have some 215Gr Woodleighs and will reload for it soon. If I can work out how to attach photos I'll post them - how do I do that?

Yes, any stocks that I take to Northern Aust are sealed.
A mate of mine has a solution he puts on for me.

Nice rifle , the rear sight is a bit different to what you normally see on a Lee Speed though.

Thanks to Sarg for getting those pics up for all to see. A little more info for anyone who is interested. Tang safety is back to front - forward is safe. The underside of the action is nicely engraved and all the screws - action, forend, grip cap - line up North and South. Forend and grip cap are ebony and butplate is horn without the trap. The magazine is also engraved. Engraved on the top cover is J Blanch & Son 29 Gracechurch Street London. Solid top rib is tapered to match the barrel contour and is engraved in a wavy pattern all the way to the front sight. All metal parts are border engraved as are all screws. Trigger a bit heavy with some creep but nothing I cant live with. I have a copy of an old photo of J H Paterson of "Man Eaters of Tsavo" and he took to Africa an identical rifle, right down to the sling swivels. I suppose many gunmakers of the time started with military actions and made rifles around them, just as custom 'smiths do today with M98's. Weight bare is a neat 6 pounds - looks like the Poms worked out the concept of "ultra light" about a hundred years before it was "discovered". Like I said, bore is pristine and I'll get it shooting soon. Let you know how it goes. Dont suppose anyone knows the serial number or maker of Patersons rifle or where it may be?

Nice images 500 Rigby (on ya Sarg!) but they don't do the rifle justice!
Having handled this stunning rifle, I know what an Absolute Cracker it is!!!
